You might want to concern following. I have noticed you make updates really a lot too often (now you had a little break, but b4 like once a day) and I think it is a bad idea. It will slowly start turning ppl away, because they don’t want to update everytime they want to play, just because you added a new skin for mp40 or such. So I’d rather say, don’t make updates/patches too often. Once in a 1-2 months minimum. I know you are moving quite fast, new features are popping in quickly, but imho you should wait till you have enough to really need the update.
Also… I’ve noticed on every screenshot and a lot of ppl has been talking about extremely bad fps. I’ve also noticed, that you are adding tri-costy models like you’d be picking some berries. You might want to consider more, what to add, how much to spend tris on it, and where it is worth to spend how much. I’ve noticed you add “cool models” without thinking, and mostly they are all too much for the engine to handle for such a worth.
Good luck with your project. I’m waiting for the times it’s getting more finished before I want to test it. Following your working still.
Ps. download and install 5 previous updates ! ! !:mad: Wait a couple months, make progress… Then pack it all togethor and release it.

What Sage says is very true. I’ve downloaded the first 2 versions, but when I saw that there was an update (almost) every day, I gave up.
The problem is when packing it all up at the “end”, it will be a very big filesize.
Anyhow, I like the mod and the idea, but Sage’s words are very useful
Still, I think an internally-tested release every 2 weeks or every month may work, no?
Of course, that would mean there would be internal releases and public alpha releases, which is quite a drag to organize.
well i disagree here, the updates are not just a new model or a new skin thats being added, its big and critical bugs, that are being fixed, and features that are being added. but mostly big bugfixes that lowers the CPU usage and such, and those have to be updated as quick as possible so the beta testers can find more bugs.
You can make updates as much as you want and test a lot of each, but please, keep them out of publicity eg. test in a password protected server, or name the server like “The test server of the last version of EF”.
After some reasonable time (and a lot of new, tested features), you have all packed up in one zip/pk3, well tested, release a public patch.
I don’t remember if you had a clan to test with or something. Or test with some fans etc. But the best is to get a clan, or a group of friends, to test frequently with. Ppl who want to help and who don’t mind updating every day, but trying to get the community doing it for you… Sounds like RIP to me. Keep up the good work, but concern about the “managing stuff”.
Tyrlop, when you are making a map, do you release the map into the public after every little glitch or bug fix or every little prefab added? Or are you trying to keep the map with as little public releases as possible?
Community (player community) can have hard time to keep on track with 2 map betas, they don’t want to check for an update every second day. What do you think will happen if you made 20 public releases of a map? Nobody will download it after the second/third version as they see redownloading is not worth it.

7 downloads! Sorry Tyrlop but I have to cast my vote for a big Update too. I can’t even remember what update I last downloaded. I agree that you need to do the “little” updates for your core testers, but it is time to combine a bunch of these into a bigger “stable” beta patch for the rest of the community. Its the only way to ensure you attract others to play and provide feedback that isn’t “so old news” as to annoy everybody.
i also disagree (and surprised on how many ppl agreed) with sage now, … this is an alpha release afterall. (!)
and it is better to have to download just a big package for those who regularly use it (thus having all previous), ths cost is only to create a small discomfort for those who are new downloaders. repacking after each update however, would place a big burden on the regulars while making a bit easier the newcomers’ lives.
i also found strange the askings for pass protection, getting a clan/friends/etc, and requests for stricter distinction between private and public releases… i dont know how to tell why (well i always had problems expressing myself, (only) partly because of english is not a native language 4 me) but i hope this last notion will be understood… its difficult 4 me now… hm lets try… i wanna avoid to be disrespectful to any1 because most of the ppl posted above their opinion different from mine are held in a high esteem not only by me but i think the majority of the users of this forum as well… so: well no one who reads this thread obliged to participate. but it should be viewed as a… hm… “bulletin board” in the offline non-internet sense, that is, it can attract new participants but those not interested can simpy walk away after having a quick glance. putting passes to servers, or trying to restrict the access to the latest versions to a group of ppl already in the project seems an unnecessary thing… well i realize i just repeating myself without giving reason to my arguments but i sadly cant do much more…
and if most of the readers are repulsed by the number or frequency of updates then let it be, but still isnt those who running this thread acting according to the very nature of an public alpha test?
and there can be always readers who will download those patches and give a try, why to discard this opportunity?
and alpha means alpha which is not beta (<-- yeah look at the genius of this guy xD! he hasth spoken!!!1one!)
nothing is frozen, the material in question is still in a liquid, rapidly changing state, features, bugs, etc emerging and disappearing, etcetc
The reason why you don’t want to throw players into a daily-updated game is that it may crash horribly when there’s new untested stuff in it.
Also, I’m not saying we should restrict players from trying the newest version, my point was rather that some may want to play a more “stable” version.

Is that possible that i can make maps for EF to and then somebody else gonna put there tanks scripts and bots . ? . and if map is good then upload to EF ?
yes that is possible, but its also just easier if you place the tanks and flags by yourself(bots dont have to be placed)
here is the entities file for gtkradiant 1.5.0 Download Link
If you use gtk radiant 1.4.0 then the file is located somewhere in the installation (ef/)

I’d just like to note that the reason that I had low FPS in that picture of the MP40 was because I upped everything to make sure it looked good. Normally I keep the settigns low so that I can play because my computer is old and moldy ;).
Also, our models are quite low poly, and pretty much equal or maybe even less than TC:E’s. The only exception is the PPSh 41 which is a little too much :D. That MP40 is around 2000 tris if I remember but most of the details are done with skins.
Just wanted to clear that up.
