dotproduct 2 blending

(Ifurita) #21

Writing any tutorial/article is a nightmare on time and resources and I only have so much of it!

So, the problem is …

Who knows, maybe I’ll take a stab at it and put it up for community input and suggestions. However, I have all of one map under my belt :stuck_out_tongue:

@Ifurita, it doesnt matter how long any of us have been mapping, if there is something we think could help others and we can spare the time, then its worth giving it a go… if people don`t like the first draft or release then we can choose to continue or not, but the chances are they will either like it or point out ways we can improve our own work.

@Ifurita, the problem for me is I write slow and will often re-write a tutorial at least 10 times before I’m happy with the flow, layout and general messages. Because I’m slow I cannot do alot of tutorial topics and hope others will write their own versions too. So if you have the time write away and post it.

@rattyredemption, when I was going to talk about tri-souping I meant the technic of it and how to use it for ceiling/floor designs to go with rock caves/faces not really a terrain tutorial.

Im guessing from what Ive seen of your tutorials, that there will be some things we do differently… if anything, people might be interested in the editor images I use to paint dotproduct and alpha blends onto my terrain.

Everyone does things differently and the more tutorial variants the better choice for people learning. Some people will understand one tutorial/article better than another so different perspectives are good.

ok, and although I too am slow at things for the same reasons you mentioned, Im willing to try and help dime write any tutorials on terrain building and blending, based on my knowledge of rtcw and prior to that blood1 (duke3d build engine) and heretic2 (q2 engine) where Ive built several large outdoor maps for both those engines, including fields, woodland, cave complexes, waterfalls, lakes etc using a multitude of different methods.

although I`m happy not writing the actual tutorials if dime proves to be good at those, and if he can decipher my rough notes
