Do you ever feel like youre not allowed to play other classes?

For a long time, I used to run all-purpose squad (Saw/Fletch/Arty) almost exclusively, for that precise reason. Then I decided against depriving myself of fun and started playing whoever the fo(k I want, while helping team regardless. Last game on Underground I had a blast rocking CQC Vassili with MOA. Top scored because of last stage plant.

Why do you think so?

You could replace Aura with Sparks… you know a medic for a medic.

But I’m in the same boat as you, and many others it seems, gotta have a medic, an engineer and a firesupport.
In the end, you just have to say screw it and play whatever you want.[/left]

I feel like I have to play Kira all the time.
Probably because of laz0rs and an endless supply of ammo.

Sad Kirays. Figures

Phantom is self-explanatory, absolutely useless in a 5v5 environment.

Vassili is no longer the broken powerhouse he used to be, and while he retains his ability to one shot, his heartbeat is considered weaker than Red Eye’s IR. While he is not useless, and still picked, I see a lot more people opting to use Redeye due to his additional health pool and abilities.

Red Eye on the other hand has an infinite spotting ability that lasts 4 seconds, and the ability to smoke and ping people with a far greater chance at killing them than they have him. The PDP and smoke combo has been shown to be downright frustrating to fight in the right hands, because the only counter to it is to straight up not engage him in a fight, and while this can also be said with Vas, you have a far greater chance at taking out Vas than you do a target that you can’t even see. At the same time his entire team will know your location and this will be refreshed every single time you engage Red Eye, due to how the IR cooldown works. Heartbeat can be removed and needs regular redeployment, IR does not - in a typical game, the enemy is spotted nearly all the time, and this only changes when the Red Eye is dead, or they are.

Red Eye wins out due to the clip size, damage, rate of fire, and lack of real penalty on missing with his weapon. Each headshot is 90 damage, you can effectively remove an entire team at a much faster speed, and this is what happens when Splash Damage balance the PDP with the pre-nerf instagibbing bolt actions, which no longer do so. This weapon can, statistically, perform at a far better level than either bolt action right now, which leaves the question of “why would you ever use it?”

If and when they nerf the PDP we’ll most likely see a return to a primarily Vassili recon style, as the bolt actions will again become the go-to weaponry for picking off the team.

You kinda lost me there, mate. What do you mean by infinite spotting? Redeye got cooldowns, while Vassili cant spot 24/7 inside 14m radius. Could you elaborate?

(Sorotia) #27

I usually take 2 or 3 to fill spots…usually Bush and Stoker for ammo and a engineer…if I don’t have any missions which require a specific Merc sometimes I’ll take a medic.

But yeah…I end up playing Bush or Stoker a lot…or the medic…and I don’t see people playing their medic till after I join and if I get on the top of the scoreboard then someone will play their medic.

Don’t really care unless its in comp

I like playing red eye, but I feel like it’s never a right time for me to use him. I find myself more useful playing every role but recon.

You toggle it on and off. The cooldown should never reach a point where it maxes out, even in smoke. This way you can effectively be spotting every single time you see an enemy just by tapping it on, spotting, tapping it off. Spot lasts 4 seconds, the initial toggle spends about 1-2 seconds. Proper management lets you infinitely use this ability.

(vdll) #31

Got it. But if you dedicate your IR to spotting for team you won’t be able to capitalize on smoke deployment as much. Plus, you can’t spot round the corner, wich Vassili does effortlessly while being out of the harms way.

(LifeupOmega) #32

With proper IR management you should always be able to have most of your smoke duration in IR, sometimes it goes a bit off and you lose a few seconds but again, it’s all practice. I’m by no means perfect at it but I have pretty decent consistency. Once you get into the swing of it it becomes easier, especially if you’re paying attention to your cooldowns.

And yeah, that’s the drawback of his IR, the inability to see people beforehand.

I just play with whatever merc i feel like to play (usually Vassili) and don’t give a sh*t about what other people think or ask me to play with.
