PERSONALLY would prefer if they re-purposed the maps for KOTH or something similar.

Just the opinion of a player that doesn’t think execution worked well in DB but would like another casual/fun/warm-up mode with minimal downtime added to the game. Based on what Shoe said I doubt the replacement will please ALL exe fans but only time will tell. I hope they can come up with something worth supporting with QA and dev time that appeals to exe players and healthy percentage of stopwatch/objective fans as well.

TF2 Arena mode maps got converted into KOTH anyway (most of them).

Battle Royale is popular ATM. Why not steal borrow game mode ideas from that genre?

Yes, we certainly need a flying bus from where players can parachute down. That would stop all this nasty spawn camping.

Bus? Pffff… they already have the blimp.
Since SD knows how much players love RNG, the huge map will be filled WITH VARIOUS CASES SCATTERED ALL OVER THEM! Adding more RNG with various weapons and their stats and their rarities!

Oh wait, you were serious, right?
As in the spawn mechanic? hmmm… that could be interesting. Mercs skydiving/parachuting down their spawn, and killing them spawn campers from above… Interesting.

Removing it was debatable in the first place, though it was understandable for many. Giving it a return is really nice for the people who appreciated it. While I hated Execution, I see no reason to not include it again. More gamemodes is always welcomed, and Execution coming back might please a lot of users who missed Execution and might have left due to this.

Would also be great if bits of execution maps were later used for new OBJ/SW maps. As well as reusing map components from OBJ/SW maps to make more execution maps. Can go in both ways. It gives to both gamemodes more maps and it makes everyone happy.

Make it a fun mode on the side […] one merc selection per death

A single objective stopwatch mode. “Pocket Watch” so to speak.

I gotta say, that does actually sound quite good. Good idea, pal.

Even though it doesn’t really contribute to the discussion, I’d really like it if Execution would make a return to the game. Furthermore from like 85% of the opinions I’ve seen so far, it could really be a great success - I mean at least in that sense that it could bring back a whole lot more of players or make many players more interested in the game again, after all a third gamemode would really bring more fun to the game and I think it wouldn’t make much trouble, if we had a few Servers available for Execution kinda like it is with Stopwatch now, either. So, to share my opinion on this matter: I think it would be a great move if Execution was added to the game again due to the fact that it’s already known to a large range of players (from which many quit the game) and is kinda part of the roots of the game.

Keep the discussions going! I would be personally curious to see what updates, improvements or changes you would like to see in Exe if it was to make a return.

@Wintergreen Time is also another factor as to why Exe was removed. With Exe being in the game, for every release we did our QA team would need to spend 100’s of hours testing it. Every Merc with every ability in every map etc. By removing it we saved a ton of time, meaning we can spend time on rigorous testing.

Help us help you? In the video you mentioned that y’all are somewhat open to the idea of it possibly having a return if some changes to the mode could make it more true to the roots of DB. Could you spill some of those internal conversations and elaborate exactly what you mean by that? Making it feel more objective and less deathmatch oriented? Retaining the maps and converting them to more SW/OBJ maps? Adding alternative objectives or scrapping the plant and defend aspect as a whole?

I’ve made more friends and lost them all due to executions exit. I would love to see it’s return in some form or another. Now I just join any match and play for myself which is fine, but not quite as fun imo.

I received more recognition as being a hacker while playing execution. It must have been the better game mode

Keep it buried. Repurpose the maps because some of them looked great.

or the game mode just attracted clueless scrubs

@Nail: Why wouldn’t you (or anyone) want Execution to return? If people dislike it then that’s fine, trash it all you’d like, but at the end of the day it’s more content for the game. Content that won’t make a return unless they’ve found a way to allocate new resources or adjust the mode without it taking anything away from the rest of the game. Considering they removed it once, I doubt the whole argument about them ‘focusing on the wrong things’ will stand. They simply won’t bring it back for the sake of it. I’m not seeing any reason to oppose it and I’m certainly no clueless scrub. You’re invited to a lobby with me if it does return.

There really were more veterans who enjoyed and frequented the mode in my experience than there were the casual, deathmatch types from CoD. Every US server had familiar faces of guys level 100+ and matches were fun and competitive. Maybe it wasn’t everyone’s thing as they referenced with the 5% of playing time being spent there, but it was a change of pace I needed and still want. I’m guessing I’ve spent about 2500 hours on this game by this point and used to play a couple hours of SW/OBJ a week when we weren’t in a ranked season. Literally all of my time on DB aside from that was spent in Exe which I’d wager was another 8+ hours or so a week, but now I hardly touch the game. I play the Hell out of ranked until the season ends or I get the rank I want, toss in a couple extra casual games every now and then to stay sharp and then that’s it. Log off. I’m sick of ranked-light and doing the same mode over and over. I want alternative modes to play on the side that are fun, regardless of whether that ends up being Execution again or not. I like @watsyurdeal’s idea of a headquarters map control mode as well.

(watsyurdeal) #34

Simple answer: more time to test content, for a game mode that’s rarely played, and doesn’t fit Dirty Bomb’s game play

@Wintergreen
I wasn’t referring to you as a useless scrub, but the players you said accused you of hacking.
I’m not a fan of LMS games, enjoyed the odd one in W:ET but that was always with people I played with on our server for years. Time and resources would be better used on getting rid of collision probs, UI issues, upgrade the maps, do optimization passes, that kinda stuff, before trying to bring back a mode that has imo a very limited appeal

That was the other guy, not me. Lol just throwing some jabs back at the crowd that dislikes Execution and thinks it was filled with bad players is all, but I get that I’m the minority with this opinion. As for their priorities, I definitely agree with your statement (and SD’s as well regarding the removal of it), but I’m just not sold on the idea that it couldn’t have a place. I believe this game does need alternative modes and customs if we’re gonna be talking longevity here and comparing it to similar successful games that have a hold in this genre only reinforces these beliefs. They talk of ‘x’ amount of hours it adds to testing every patch and update, but I’m sure they could implement things elsewhere that’d help generate more revenue - especially in the form of rentable servers or other cosmetic items in the store like skins or taunts that may be exclusive or earned in various modes? Who knows, I’m not a dev. The bottom line is I enjoy this game far less and have consequently spent less time and money playin’ it without having a fun and quirky mode to fall back on when I feel like it. This is coming from a guy that wholeheartedly loves the core of DB and plays ranked, too. It’s not like I don’t appreciate the game for what it is or need to find a new one. I just don’t want it to feel so repetitive and linear anymore. I’m sure I speak on behalf of a lot of folks here, but then again I call myself the resident Execution cheerleader so…
