Dirty Bomb Have Slower Game Play.

Dirty Bomb brings back the style of game that has been missing since Call of Duty became such a huge hit with non-typical shooter players. Everyone since then has been trying to copy that success because all companies want to make lots of money. Dirty Bomb, however, has gone back in time a bit. Not just by trying to make an updated version of ET but bring back some elements from other games and mods like Action Quake 2 and Urban Terror (before it’s bastardized current version) and even a bit of SoF2.

DB goes for a higher time to kill than most modern shooters which makes it more a game of consistent aim as opposed to whoever sees the other player first. It also throws in a somewhat deep movement system. You can be successful without having good movement or doing particular jumps on maps but you’ll be better if you do. You’ll get somewhere just a bit quicker, you’ll flank easier and you’ll surprise people much more often. I love that. Throw in the mercs all giving their own flavor to matches and making things different every time, even with a lack of maps, keeps the game fairly fresh for me despite sinking in quite a few hours.

Sure, some people do panic and jump off the walls. That’s just one of the things that is fun to learn to overcome consistently. So no, I do not agree the game needs to be slowed down. I honestly think the current speed of the game is just about perfect and isn’t playing “follow the leader” like hundreds of FPS games that have released in the last decade.

To me, it feels as if the fast paced gameplay is a HUGE part of why Dirty Bomb is such a fun game to play. Taking that away would basically kill the game for me.

I wouldn’t change Dirty Bomb, but like you I actually enjoy slower games with a little bit more tension. Not so much because I’m into strategy I guess. Anyway, Execution mode with a smaller player count kinda brings a slightly slower way to Dirty Bomb, which I really enjoy and you might too when Execution rolls back around. Obviously the core gameplay and how mercs control and stuff is still quick movement and such, but I found those matches to feel less chaotic as a whole. And of course, obviously in general, lower player counts bring a slower and less chaotic feeling with them. Hope this info helps you a little bit.

Alright guys, thanks for your opinion. I just wanted to know who likes it how it is or wants it different. Thank you once again!

There is plenty of strategy in DB. It’s hard to notice at first because because it can look chaotic.

Ok lets take Chapel, for example. The key to holding off the EV at the start is to control the end of the road with the ramp and ammunition area. I like to plant a turret here to keep the attackers from flanking and getting behind my team. If you can control the ammunition and prevent the attackers from breaking through, they get bottled up with the EV on narrow road. This works especially well if the defenders can use the gun at the cross section. However, the gun at the cross section is useless if the attackers can flank and get into the ramp platform (a perfect sniper location).

Another factor is team play. On a great team, the support classes deploy their stuff (health stations, mines, ammo stations, turrets). They throw out health and ammo packs, medics revive, snipers give cover, and everyone keeps the rhinos happy. A good rhino, supported with meds and ammo, can hold off an entire enemy team. Good players will defend team turrets, they cover objective runners, and they body block engineers who are defusing.

The composition of a team becomes important. If I see too many of my teammates on the ground, I switch to sparks and start reviving. If the enemy team has too many Naders, then I switch from Bushwhacker to Proxy. If my team are running out of ammo then I switch to Sky Hammer. If the defender are bunched in the open, I switch to Sky Hammer and put an airstrike on them.

I can write an entire dissertation on turret placement.

At first, all this can be daunting. It can look a lot like team death match. But once you are able to manage the high level of stimulus, game strategy becomes clearer.

Coming from a Quake background I cant stand the slower games. I used to love the Team Fortress mod on Quake 1, but I cant stand Valves interpretation of it now as you move so slowly. I feel I should have a cup of tea next to me and have a sip while walking down corridors. CS:Go is almost as bad. I love the fast pace. Get in, do your thing, get out.

Maybe thats why I’m single tho …

i dont know how many hours you have in dirtybomb but when i started playing i thought it was too quick and a mess as well. Overtime it slowed down for me the more i played it. The feeling of too fast sort of disappeared after i got my quake hat on. I find i have to think much faster in DB than in insurgency or GRP

There is tons of strategy in db but its obscured by the manic fog of war. Playing lots of it i find that i can tune that out and focus on whats important at any given time.

Hahah, yup. My thoughts exactly on TF2’s movement system.

Snipers are already a total pain in the ass, making it slower would be horrible.

I disagree with OP about pace of the game: the speed of characters, ttk, etc. are all in a good position. He did touch on a subject of mindless TDM, which is what most rounds turn to.

So… give us FF-ON : Fast paced + strategy.

@favoriteKnife @Amerika Have to agree with you chaps here. I’ve never understood tf2 fanatics
