I know, I agree.
Its gonna make people dissapointed, uninstall, and lose trust. Its better to give realistic expectations.
PR is easy. All you have to do in PR is manipulate or lie. Thats why PR is dead. Nobody trust PR. People trust friends recommendations.
Are you saying that SD is full aware that somehow the game they are developing is not at all an attempt to return to oldschool FPS and they have decided to create an elaborate conspiracy?
Gotta make hype! They are still developing the game, right? It could very well be that all the statements you have seen so far are within the development plan to be incorporated before release?
Okay, can someone from SD comment on this please?
Fan favorite underground & http://forums.warchest.com/showthread.php/41278-Map-Preference-Poll-v37682 just seems so odd, why? I mean have you really just taken the map you liked most and made it to the fan made…? Or what is the thought process behind?
Also how serious are you with the “classic FPS” mentioning? I think I am going to experience a dejavu soon…

It is actually like due to the maps that NDA has been released on and likely because the press enjoyed that the most out of the maps they played. Let’s not forget that Underground is the most noob friendly map in many respects.
Well, the NDA argument may be true to some extent, but still can´t be the reason for why the map with the FEWEST votes on the most recent poll is supposed to be fan favorites.
I am honestly not quiet sure how a a bunch of people can have a specific map preference in a new game with many “new” things they got thrown into for 1 or 2 hours… It would make sens tho, that if it´s the press favorites map, that it is being called out as the fan favorite as well, to kinda create the image of the situation as if everything is going in the right direction. But as someone who has been reading tons of articles about game ratings etc. I don´t remember this kind of map design being appreciated really… Also it is far away from everything that is being discussed on those forums from the side of the testers AS WELL, what also was SD´s opinion about the current maps I thought…
So it really makes no sens for me still…
Folks, you’re over analyzing this a bit. The update discusses the recent press visit and a lot of the footage is from that event. The press only played the two maps at the event, one being Underground, which is why it is mentioned.
Yes, in making the video all snazzy and marketingish (I can and will make up these words!) they’ve over-stated your love for Underground, and that maybe wasn’t the best of ideas, but for those not playing the game already I doubt that even registered. We know you’re not big fans of the map and we’re hoping to address those concerns as we continue development.
Don’t worry, it’s not been forgotten

Thank you very much! And how serious can we take the statement of DB becoming a “classic FPS” experience? Or what can we understand under the therm “classic FPS”?
classic FPS = shoot virtual people with virtual weapons in first person
Aww Anti, it’s so much fun when everyone over analyzes the littlest thing, get Tok and Pixie going and I got an evening of reading

What do you expect from a series called Dishing the Dirt. That sounds like it is about cleaning plates.
The name is cool. It’s from ‘spilling the dirt’ which is from ‘spilling the beans’ which is slang for delivering the gossip.

Gotta make hype! [/QUOTE]
Hype can go both ways:
So no, one doesnt need to make hype.
One needs to communicate what the game actually is. That is all.
If a developer cannot see what the game actually is, then everyone will lose, both developer and consumers.
If a game is advertising the game for what the developer wishes the game could be, then the game isnt close to ready to be released, and also just maybe the developer needs and update on what the game actually is in reality.
If one isnt sure what your game is actually right now, or is unsure how others see your game, then listening to feedback can help a lot, and be a critical eyeopener.
A developers project can be absolutely a baby, where its totally 100% beautiful regardless its shape or progress.
The problem is, that those eyes, looking at the project as a baby, cannot be shared by consumers, since they just want to invest time to have fun or/and have a specific challenge, basicly haveing demands, where the developer give it unconditional love to it.
TL ; DR
CEO / head game designers: Your love project, will get your love, even if it fail. Consumers wont do that. Whatever vision you have for the game means the world to YOU, but means nothing for the consumer, cause they cant play your vision.
