dino-corp. plaza [need help] + plaza fixed to only 32 floor

(kgbdino) #21

hello again people

ive been gone a while so my map has been on a hault but now that im on it again i got a problem.

my elevator will still not be solid and wont move! :banghead: :bash: :banghead: :bash: :banghead: :bash:
any one got any ideas on how i can fix this?
ive tried many tutorials and it still wont help.

(Loffy) #22

Hi kgbdino!

  1. Select the elevator and hit “N”. Is the box “solid” marked? If not, make sure to mark the box.
  2. Download and have a look at Loffy’s Madness beta 3:
    http://www.splashdamage.com/index.php?name=pnPHPbb2&file=viewtopic&t=12665
The map works in regular ET, just download and run.

It is a map with a building and 4 floors and elevators. If you like the elevators, I can send them to you in a .map file.

Trevlig helg! (have a nice weekend)

The elevator is probably a set of brushes converted to a script_mover. Check if it has the ‘solid’ spawnflag set first.
If that doesn’t work, try to use the texture you used on the elevator on some other brush. There are textures that are non-solid.

(kgbdino) #24

@Loffy Yes the Box “solid” is checked/marked.
il see if the map helps me thnks

@kamikazee the texture i use i also used on the floor and the floor is solid.

hello again people.
sorry for being away for so long but my map on the plaza has taken much of my time and so has school.

well then lets go.

i have a problem,i am trying to fill the open spot under the bevel and over the blue roof
how can i do that?

(kamikazee) #27

You can put a straight ‘surface’ over the bevel’s sides using the Endcap tool in Radiant. This will create two endcaps (2 surfaces) on each side of the bevel you selected before you ran the tool.

(Pytox) #28

What if you should make it like a sort of round hotel? You have some rooms withs beds :stuck_out_tongue:
a restaurant downstairs, a lobby and a swimming pool and etc  That would be great  !

(kgbdino) #29

well im not shure exactly how you ment it but after some tries i managed to get it to work. but please dont ask me how i dont know :???:

(kgbdino) #30

what tool do i need to use to free transform a brush? and where in radiant do i find it?
thnks.

(Loffy) #31

“to free transform a brush” You mean to cut a brush? Or to rotate it?
Cutting is done with the Clipper, hit “x” and cut the selected brush in the 2D-window.
Rotating is done in the menu (Selection, then Rotate).

When I was new, I downloaded and studied some great “making quake maps”-videos from www.3dbuzz.com
They are free, but you have to register at 3dbuzz.
They are for quake, but it works for ET too! You will learn how to clip and rotate and many other things.

The editor also comes with a manual. http://www.qeradiant.com/manual/Q3Rad_Manual/
These tasks are described in it too.

Keep on mapping, 'cos I want to see Dino Plaza!

(kgbdino) #32

ok thnks loffy you always helped me
btw when i say “free transform” i am talking abaout taking one of the corners dragging it so the brush gets a dofferent shape

Keep on mapping, 'cos I want to see Dino Plaza!

i am going to post screenshots soon just need to make some more things + get some textures

(Loffy) #33

Ah, I see.
That is called Drag, and it also described in the manual.

  Drag Vertices
  (Menu: Selection > Drag Vertices)
  (Shortcut: CTRL + V)
This highlights the corner vertices of a geometry brush, marking those corners with a green "handle" box where the sides of each brush face connect. Press again and the feature will toggle off. Pull on a handle to resize part of a brush. If Snap-to-Grid is active (Menu: Grid), the handle will usually snap to the nearest grid coordinate as it is pulled. Undo does NOT function with this effect.

I reapeat that Undo does NOT function with this effect.

also please note that:

Design Note: Drag Vertices is a balky tool at best. It works well if the user is manipulating a triangular brush face, raising or lowering corners of the triangle. Work with care, it is quite easy to pull a brush out of useable (or recoverable) shape.

Save often.

And click on the “brush cleanup” button like you would get payed for that

Another thing about Vertex-editing: it pays out a lot to block the directions in which you DON’T want the corners of the brushes to move. So for example when I vertex-edit terrain, I always click on the X and Y buttons to make sure the corners will only move in the Z-axis direction.

And v51 to shaderman’s remark about the brush cleanup.

thanks guys that helped now the screenshots are only a week or 2 away
(if i am lucky)

(WeeBull) #37

you’re talking such a long time about the map now, i hope it will be a nice one, i look forword to the screenies

btw look at our signatures, the blue border, aren’t they the same, did you copy them from my sig? i don’t mind but you should ask these stuff, i’m sorry if you didn’t copy it.

good luck with your map

(DWM|Commando) #38

umm i am guessing u mean manipulating it in almost any way you want. in taht case select the brush (brushes) and press “v” to show vertexes (plural??) and then you can select each vertex and drag it around in the different views till you get the shape you want. but some very weird and complex shapes arnt possible

(dime1622) #39

nor are concave shapes

(kgbdino) #40

@ weebull
yeah when i look close i see that they are the same but i didnt copythem from you (as i knew of) i found your sign image on my pc and i thought it would be cool having them but i didnt know where the image came from
i guess my brother must have seen your sign and saved it
if you want me to remove it i will.

@commando
thnks but how do i select and drag one of the vertics in any direction? i onlu manage to drag it in a staright lin on either the z, y, or x-axis i cant drag it a bit in z and a bit in x or y or any other combination.

@dime
what is a concave shape? ive heard of it but i dont know what shape it is.

for all of you i only need some interior and some textures and then i go mad with “camera”
any ideas for textures?
