Different skins on the same model?

I’ve been trying to get this to work as well, and have tried MadJack’s suggestion as well as many ideas of my own. However, none have worked for me either.

First, the Error Check is not implemented in the version that madjack has hosted either, so I’m surprised that he has instructed people to use it. As for the model that you got to work Madjack, can you host it for download? This puzzle is driving me crazy!

I’ve tried rebuilding the normals and exporting from npherno. I’ve tried altering the syntax inside the .skin file to use quotation marks. I’ve tried changing references from .jpg to .tga to no file extension at all. I’ve tried many things, and nothing has worked for me. Madjack seems like the only one to solve this, however, I can’t even get his suggestion to work.

Wow… so much attention  I like that

Huh… I’ll redo it… Got to re-download it first… Shouldn’t be too long. I’ll EDIT the post when it’s posted on the site with the URL.

I said to use the Error Check Objects and I’m sorry about that cause I didn’t use it, I was trying to remember if I had used it and couldn’t remember so I suggested to use it… My bad.

I think madjack is good at manipulating screenshots in photoshop

Anyway I have tried too, and the only result was getting the black texture replaced with the black/orange texture-not-found.

No foul. I’ve done worse when trying to help others from memory
But I would love to see your working solution. It just makes no sense that I can’t get this to work.

Thanks! I made it myself. People have asked me where I came up with the name chavo one. Well here he is.

Alright… You can all wack me!

It seems I made the box red. What I did is to explicitely changed models/blk.jpg to models/red.jpg in the MD3. I have no clue why I did that but it’s sure is not the way to do it!

I’m working on making it work like an axis/allies crate right now, so I can buy back that oh so admiring feeling

LOL
That file you have IS the same as the one I got.

(No1_sonuk) #27

I just tried the crates - nothing showed up :frowning:

Ha! I figured it out, and boy is it a stupid requirement. I tested the solution, and verified it in the source code, so I’m fairly confident this is it.

There is nothing at all wrong with your model. In order to get it to work you have to assign to your misc_gamemodel a targetname OR a scriptname OR a spawnflag. Any one of those three or any combination will get the skin to work.

Like I said, stupid. :moo:

OMG! \o/

Yeah, pretty dumb but glad someone found out how to do it. Too bad I had friends visiting over. I could’ve find it. Eventually

Will that feel good feeling ever be back!?  lol

LOL. The REALLY stupid thing is that I’ll be using it for a mover, but I was testing as a static model.
I guess if I’d tried it for the mover to begin with, I’d never have known there was a problem.

Thanks for the help, and I’ll try it later I’m at work now :frowning: ).
