Describe xT in one word.

(Protekt1) #61

As per dev’s request

Gibbing

Why did I choose this word? Because I feel like gibbing has become too much of a chore and you get punished very badly for not gibbing fast enough. In a bad case scenario, your target ragdolls just far enough that you cannot complete a gib without moving to a very vulnerable spot. In a worse case scenario, the self-reviver you just took out ragdolls out of line of sight and takes you out. Mainly, to me at least, gibbing feels like a chore where you get punished because medics pick up very fast without limit. It isn’t necessarily a bad or good thing, but that is the single word that comes to mind

too early to start trying to define a reaction to the game considering it’s far from being finished…

… but this thread on the other hand: “redundant”
too early to start trying to define a reaction to the game considering it’s far from being finished…

… but this thread on the other hand: “redundant”
It’s absolutely the best time to do this! All of this feedback is taken on board and will help us to make the game more ‘finished’.
While this is an interesting exercise, distilling everyone’s opinion into a single sentiment, I’d much prefer more than 1 word to explain the words chosen. Especially when people are talking about ‘Performance’, ‘Disappointment’, ‘Average’, etc.

It’s not that we don’t want to hear this kind of feedback, but we can’t really act much on one word with no explanation.
I think in this thread here you can see very quickly where XT ranges among the alpha participants. And what their overall opinions are.

If I’d have to rate XT just on the basis of this thread here, I’d have to give it a 4 out of 10; at best(even though that’s not my personal opinion).

To me that shows very clearly, that XT needs some significant changes and the forums are full with suggestions and A-class whining. The only problem is, that many, if not most, of the people have no common consensus on if, or in wich direction stuff is supposed to be changed.

But the raw info is there(in the forums), spamming this thread here with even more wall of texts wouldn’t help.

indecisive

Even if single words are not the best in terms of explanations, they sure give a nice tool to get a quick preview of how the game is experienced. I find it really more explicit like this :

(Bloodbite) #68

Half of them seem a bit too… personal. Personal and not so much about the game.

Hollow

To elaborate on mine. I just feel like this game brings nothing to the table right now. It feels like I am playing a worse version of every other shooter I’ve played in the past.

RtCW: Doesn’t have the speed, balance, quality maps, gunplay, fluid movement, excitement. ability to multi kill
CoD: Doesn’t have the immersion, quality of maps, fluid movement, easy multi kills

Those games just felt very refined. The quality is very high and yet the game is very basic. It feels like XT wants to be 50 different things but they are all done incorrectly and thus it falls short in every aspect. You guys need to revisit the roots of your genre and realize how much fun is being soaked out of your upcoming title. Go install RtCW, play some rounds with us and get the excitement of that last doc run attempt with 20 seconds left on the board. This escort EV business sucks the enjoyment out of this game along with the lack of quality maps and meat grinder spawn system.

Ask yourself this - When IW developed CoD 1. Do you think they made it with money on their mind or the passion to develop an amazing game? That’s what you’re missing. I feel no passion in XT. All I see is a math equation. Take some of this, take some of that, add those together and look at what we have…a cash grab. Not a quality FPS that will stand strong for 3+ years.

Edit: I understand the game isn’t completed but, I also understand how time works. At the rate you are patching and the lack of changes in the updates my expectations are low come release. Unless you have some sort of “mega patch” coming in the next few weeks before CBT.

Agree to a certain extent, but also think about how you would view RTCW pre-1.41 and OSP.

ps. do you mean hollow?

(.N.E.R.D.) #71

EMPTY

Cause noone plays except sometimes you would find some people in the evening then you can play a round and everyone disconnects again …

Wow, I hoggins that pretty hard. Yeah, I meant Hollow. I played RtCW since release with and without OSP. The only thing that was trash was Shrub mod.

I got the same feeling.

(Ashog) #74

shrub was imho the best mod for rtcw

Wasn’t going to post here because I didn’t want to appear overly negative without having the opportunity to elaborate. But seeing as Smooth appears to have at least semi-endorsed the idea I will. However rather than a word I shall use a picture; thousand words and all that. Okay so maybe it’s technically called a diagram or something, I have no idea to be honest.

(Humate) #76

vanilla = hollow

-Its a fun game in really really small doses.
-Its missing deep class relationships, and its lacking individual impact that the player can feel.
-The combat mechanics of controlling recoil and holding down mouse1, are shallow.
-Lack of multi-kill ability, forces teams to all-in lemming rush one path, and all-in defend one path. [its Brink with higher lethality basically]

To re-iterate what strych said - yes its an alpha but mega patch needed

This is beautiful. This is honestly what I was hoping for. I told myself I will never be fooled again after Brink. I feel like I’m being fooled again. But there’s still some hope.

(BomBaKlaK) #78

arf this pîcture is perfect this is exactly what I think.

(INF3RN0) #79

Biggest problem with the maps is that they feel extremely linear, offer little creativity or dynamic opportunities, and don’t feel like a memorable part of the game experience.

Biggest problem with the game play is that there’s no long lasting appeal because it feels very shallow in all aspects.

So at this point I’m sure it would be successful in the sense that people would try it and say it was fun at a casual level, but it wouldn’t retain a dedicated player base over the long term. That’s pretty common since most big titles release a sequel within a year when people are bored with the other game. I don’t really care as much what mechanics are in play as long as there’s a lot of variety and some real long term appeal.

(attack) #80

bad that there is no way to share the map with us many of us have plenty of time.
