how come u keep saying that? where do u get that from? have u played etqw?
I have never played a class based fps game where u cant change class/weapons/utility according to the situation

What u are advocating is that people get a cookiecutter build that is average in every situation and remove any form of specialization.That is already happening and the game is only a couple days out.
I can assure u: if the game stays like this u will see only 1 or 2 builds in the endgame not only because thats all u need, but because thats all u CAN do

u just described how it is
all i see is ppl swarming in light (because smg is overpowered) but buff heavys and then u will see whole servers swarmed with heavys

what u need todo is make more restrictions ie a light cant engineer and a heavy cant medic
that way going all lights has a big disadvantage
There needs to be balance in such a way that a good mix of types is always the best option

Good for you then, you can actually pick your class and weapon anytime you want.

I’m agreeing with people disagreeing on the operative uselessness. I’m not a master spy, but disguising, taking a sideway to get behing the ennemy team then throwing a grenade in the middle of them (especially with the ability to shoot to make it explode) is quite effective.

Uh not to sound like a troll here, but you’re entirely wrong on this one, my main character is spec’d operative/medic while my alt is soldier/engineer (if you’re doing more than 2 classes and the overalls on 1 character, you’re SEVERELY gimping yourself). As an operative i go around and cause massive amounts of confusion and team support, from spotting mines, hacking turrets behind teams so it mows them down and when they scatter i clean up the remnants of their hp with my silenced smg/knife melee. And operatives don’t need team buffs because they have firewalling and comms hack (comms hack is AMAZINGLY more useful than ANY buff in the game). The last point i’d like to invalidate is that disguises are useless, far from it, i can’t tell you the amount of times i’ve successfully used a disguise to take out 3-4 people at once, so the reason you think operative is useless is you seem to be doing it entirely wrong.

Edit: Also play on a friendly fire on server, the mechanic is AMAZING, shoot an enemy disguised as a team mate and it says you’re friendly firing so people typically stop firing unless you’re an obvious bad operative.

-ATI performance fix

-Textures are a blurry piece of garbage even on high.(not worthy in a game in 2011)The one who made these should be bitchslapped hard.Some of them are Half Life 1 Style or worse.Seems like he never played any games since 1999-2000.

-SSAO and Shadows are somewhat messed up.

-Smooth up the Animations.Someo f them look Quake Wars style.Mad ugly in 2011.

-Rework some weapons.Some of them feel like youre shooting a softair.

-work on netcode (one of the worst in years and years).

-Give a lobby system for console users (dont port it in the PC version!)

-Fix maps.Some are unbalanced such as Container City.

-Smooth up the movement (the movement in this game is not 2011 worthy).Definetly needs to be smoother.

-Fix dying animations (they look choppy as hell!Again,Quake Wars Style)

-Give options to costumize our HUD (look how MMO’s do it)

-Fix the texture loading bug

-Fix the sound bug on Harbor 18 or whats the map called

-Fix the engineer turret.dumbest turret ever invented in a FPS title.Takes to long to track someones ass.(DUMB AS ****)

Things for DLC:

-Give us options for weapon costumization (Camos)

-give us a option to paint our weapons (gold,grey,metallic,black,metallic black and so on)

And ESPECIALLY

GIVE US MORE CLOTHES inspired by Movies.You know,Schwarzenegger (Last Action Hero,Predator,Terminator),Equilibrium,Leon the Professional and so on and so on!

AND PLEASE SD PRETTY PLEASE give us cloaks to wear,Matrix style or something.

The only thing I’m begging for is the option to set HUD transparency and maybe scale.

Sometimes I cant see anything if I’m looking at the direction of the objectives.

Maybe if it’s possible project the 3d HUD like character names and objectives behind enemies.

A lot of your points are wrong and then your suggestions are just ripping stuff from bad Fps’s that SD already pretty much said they didn’t want to be like, aka mw2, tf2 etc etc.

And the net code is the BEST I’ve seen in years, haven’t played bfbc2, mw2, tf2 lately have you? least all my bullets register where i fire and i don’t get shot when i run around a corner.

I definetly had some shots fired that didnt register and i clearly didnt miss these dudes.

Maybe it comes from my bad FPS and general lag.If yes,then i apoligize for saying that brink has a bad netcode.

And yes i played BC2 and TF2.Especially BC2’s netcode was just terrible terrible terrible thats true.

But i don’t see were the other points are wrong. o_O

I really want:

  • a icon for BOTS in the Highscore/Gamer list so you can see who is human who is bot
  • a preselection for your own different characters so you can specialize each class e.g. if you chose soldier in the game … its switches autmatically to char1, if you chose engeenier switches to char2 you created and so on
  • a fix for the “invisible” player bug
  • a fix for the sound bug

With the rest of the game i am fine. I simply love it :slight_smile:

I like the music. It’s cool, relaxing and just underlines the game without being obtrusive. Don’t change it.

I won’t repeat all the great suggestions other people already made, so I’ll just focus on what’s missing.

Operative class is dull and boring, has no buff and can’t do sheet in disguise. He’s the pathetic clone of the Team Fortress2 spy. Give him a backstab-ability, or some attack/ability while disguised or some unique stuff/abilities while disguised.

The character creation is utterly disappointing. 8 face-archetypes is kinda laughable. You can’t even change their eye colour or their age/wrinkles, eyebrows etc. Not just another hero? I don’t think so.
Voice acting. The voice acting in this game is great, but the different voice packs sound hardly any…different. Why is there no Asian, Russian, German (Schwarzenegger), Arab, Indian or latino voice acting in this game? They would sound totally different and might make characters even more unique. Look at TF2, The Medic is some kind of German. The Spy might be french. The Sniper is an Aussie, the heavy is a russian. That’s a lot more variety.

How about some taunts in the game or your player sometimes saying some comments on the gameplay, like in TF2. I’m always ****ting my pants when heavy is starting to comment things, like "Cry some moooooore! So many little men on this team! More rubble, less trouble. Or when he just starts singing while killing people. That’s just hilarious and greatly adds to the game experience…

Brink is fun, even though it looks like a construction site where the building will look great once it’s done, but unfortunately it’s not finished yet. I wish I could say this game’s great, but it’s merely good. It could be great, though.

Main issues:
-Playing with friends is kinda awkward right now. Joining via Steam and no lobby is kinda prehistoric. Have a look at Left4Dead to see how it’s done right.
-The operative is kinda garbage. Hacking etc is kinda fun, but he’s got no buff, no cloak and no specials/abilities at all when disguised and that’s just epic fail! You can’t even reload your gun, lol! Have a look at the spy from Team Fortress 2 to see how it’s done right.
-Maps are unbalanced, especially at certain chokepoints.
Turrets are just laughable. They react way too slow, target way too late and are just overall kinda inefficient, you can outrun them easily and melee them to death while running circles around them. Once again, have a look at TF2 to see how it’s done right.
-Switching characters/body types/abilities is impossible in the game. Allow us to switch characters at the command post.
-Character creation is just disappointing at best. What happened to “Not just another hero”? Archetypes suck, especially if there are only 12. I can customize my character much better in other games. Most laughable thing is: You can have an Asian archetype, but there’s no “Asian” sounding voice acting.
-Voice acting sounds just all the same. Only Dhafer L’Abidine sounds somewhat different. That’s just disappointing. How about additional Russian, German (Schwarzenegger), Latino etc. voice acting to add more desperately needed variety?

Dear Splash Damage, it would be most appreciated if you where to add more weapons into the game aswell as more perks such as faster sniper rifle reloading and fire rate for the operative as it seems more likely this would be the class to use a sniper. A greater array of shotguns would also go down quite well. A class leveling up system which increased your skills with said class, would be fantastic, such as faster hacking with the operative and faster tracking with turrets for the engineer. The list goes on =P the game is fantastic though and lag issues seem to be settling =D keep up the amazing work.

Good thread and good to see SD is reading it. Here are my thoughts without pointing out any obvious bugs or performance issues (which I must say, have already been ironed out or never presented a problem for me personally).

PC Specific

Dedicated Servers

– Please consider implementing reserved slots based upon SteamID rather than a universal password. This would do wonders for the communities forming around this game that attract more players within them (and at large) to purchase and play the game.

– Please link bans to SteamID, as well.

SDK

– Pretty, pretty please? With cherries on top? Again, this would do wonders to help the various existing and forming communities in promoting the game to their members. As you well know, you can’t please everyone. However, you CAN give them the tools to please themselves. Allowing communities to tailor the content on their servers to the personalities of their members should be a win/win situation in terms of happy gamers and selling your game. Even if it were locked down to certain aspects of the game (strictly a map editor, for example).

All Platforms

Live, On-The-Fly Character/Weapon Customization

– As Paul Wedgewood said in the Community Q&A leading up to the release of Brink on body types and not being able to change them during a match, “it’s an important decision with fairly wide-ranging consequences.” This has proven to be very true. For that very reason, I would love to see this be an option for hosts/servers. I can see its place for solo play and challenges, but without the ability to plan ahead based on the other members of your team in a public online campaign and especially versus match, you’ve potentially got a recipe for disaster. Imagine an accidental entire team of Heavies with limited flanking ability on the attacking side due to SMART limitations.

As someone else mentioned, perhaps a trade-off would be to allow switching to another character entirely. It could be added to the command post option wheel.

– Further character customization in the details (such as colors) would always be a welcome addition. Though, I do feel it is important to retain a level of “theme” in order to maintain faction identification on the battlefield.

Gameplay

– I would love to see some maps where both factions have offensive (and defensive) objectives at the same time. A classic example of which would be Capture the Flag (Intel?).

Some of these are already echoed on this thread so maybe my opinion could give further umph to add these ideas.

  1. Stats: A simple total XP and no breakdown is cheap and does not show comparisons to play. I like k/d but at least break down how I earned my 6547 XP!
  2. Lobby system: I don’t play with bots and I can never find Old Skool rooms with over three other people in them. Plus playing with friends was painful or getting people into my ‘fireteam’ was pointless since i never knew if they accepted or what.
  3. Guns and Mods: They are all the same as other basic FPS…pretty lame approach in my opinion.
  4. Maps: I actually love the level designs, but I want to have more (who wouldn’t).
  5. Bots: I quit games where bots outnumber people which is often and very very ominous since this game just came out and bots outnumber people 2-1 in most games.

Overall it is a decent game…but it seems like your committed to the game and maybe, just maybe it could be something special.

really i like this game but i thing it’ll be boring because NOW you just can play the campaign missions online…
what we really need is other game modes like tdm or cods demolishon thats fun ctf etc with more game modes more fun

I also recall reading that the host of private games would be able to turn off the bots. I have not seen that feature on the console versions. Maybe Splash Damage can add some playlists that includes a “human players only” playlist? I know that bots are supposed to be so important to the game but the community is what keeps it thriving for months to come. From playing and checking to forums, it appears that people are getting tired of playing in rooms that mostly comprise of bots. Makes the game appear dead. I’d trade the luxury of let’s say 100 different rooms with 2-5 players plus bots in them, for like 50 rooms that always have 10+ human players ready to battle.

-general map balance in regards to spawn timers and spawn points. I am sure that will all be worked on.
-a traditional lobby system to make playing with friends easy. It will guarentee longlivity for the game.
-more voice options
-more gun customizing, down to colors
-the HUD needs to fade out when looking directly at markers, OR players in front of markers/highlightneed to REALLY stand out. Players get lost in the HUD sometimes when there are tons of markers.
-a solid sounding hitmarker effect that will give guns even more punc
-heavy types need a boost in HP to make them viable. They are pointless to play without solid team support and even then, its much harder to make use of your supplies before getting annihilated. You need a personal medic.
-heavy type weapons are called “high end weaponry”; they suck overall. Im sorry. I love the shotgun but that’s really it, anyone with a SMG will take you out bfore your chizor can get enough hits in simply because its more reliable to aim.
-HUD customizing for consoles, down to individual colors
-make the guns feel more unique. In BLOPS, certain attatchmets on certain guns had undocmented yet intended effects. Might b a good idea to explore.
-grenade arc should be worked with, it just feels meg
-horse armor
-auto aim in close quarters gets REALLY wonky. Its impossible to track at near point blank only because your aim is spazzing out.
-engineers need to take more time disarming hacks.
-operatives need hack range extended a small bit
-turrets need slightly quicker track time to become useful. They do well but only in large wide open areas, and even then they are outmanuvered easily
–add the ability to start a private game, and be able to swith it to a publically available game mid match to alleviate issues due to lack of lobbies
-turn on “warm up mode” in standard playlidts and add tool tip explanations for new players, so we can have more matches with people, less with bots

I think that’s all for now. The game is great but does still need work.

EDIT: OH maybe consider adding cosmetic ranks PAST 5 to satisfy stat based players? Not based just on XP earned but like the battlescore in Battlefield, it can fluctuate based on your performance in game. Hit would just be a number.
