Competitive Issues & Discussion

Definitely less spread, don’t know about recoil.

Nevertheless, you should be able to potentially shoot more accurately in this game.

Oh, and I’d like to see the spread increase when moving/SMARTing removed.

i get while your sliding the spread should be wack and give recoil. but when im standing in one spot even crouching needs to be toned down because i cant finger bang my mouse like most kids. TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP

This doesn’t actually help. The CoF in Brink appears to use a threshold system with a time decay.

[SMG A] has the following properties:

[ul]
[li]Accuracy base of 4
[/li][li]Loses 0.8 accuracy per shot
[/li][li]Cone of Fire improves with a rate of 5 accuracy per second
[/li][/ul]

What this means is that the first 5 shots from [SMG A] will go straight down the barrel, as happens now, where the cone, I feel is a “competitive” size and accuracy matters. In Brink you will not kill anything in 5 shots with an SMG to the face as illustrated by the damage chart here.

The problem is that accuracy does not instantly reset when you let go out the button, but instead improves at a static rate, regardless of scoping, crouching, or hip firing (although their accuracy loses may vary.)

The “lack of skill” part comes in when we address the improvement rate: If I burst 5 shots, as intended to maintain accuracy, it will take a full 0.8 seconds to “reset” my accuracy to 4. If I shoot again before it fully decays, I get smaller bursts until the accuracy threshold of 0 is broken.

Example:
If I take 5 shots (-4 accuracy) and pause for .4 seconds (+2 accuracy), my next burst will only have 2 accuracy (2 shots) until the CoF comes into play.

Currently the system does not reward skill. The CoF does not need to be “tightened up” as people are suggesting, but instead, the accuracy improvement rate needs to be increased drastically (which would punish spraying). Tightening up the CoF only makes spraying a more effective tactic vs. burst firing, which should be the intended methodology.

Is it possible to make a Promod anyway? :penguin:

mattc0m +1 - you have said the most that i think

I think SD made a lot of failures (after playing 40 hours, no clanwars):

  • No Linux Server on release
  • Operative want nobody to play and the missions to attack with them are pretty impossible
  • No Demo recording
  • No Spectate in First-Person
  • The ESL Tourney is too early, u have to fix first the Bugs…

Love the game btw (have bought 3 times and 2 times gifted), but pls SD do something to make it really good for Competition.

Sorry for my English

Been saying this for a while now, these big competitions early on will hurt competition more than promote it.

Cant remember when all these cups kick off as I haven’t been following them much but if they were held off slightly till the scene settles down a bit more I think it would work out better for everyone involved.

The worst part about all of this is that there are different rule sets for all of the tournaments. Mainly because it’s undecided what’s acceptable or not. There should have been a standard before there were cash prizes.

Reactor is a very competitive map, imo.

Any thoughts on limiting the number of turrets possible in a competition ?
