This is true for stuff that float over someone’s head but things like auras or silhouettes around team-mates would greatly reduce the confusion.
Clear team distinction
Sure, and it may be a better solution to what we have now, but people don’t have auras and it’s a bit jarring from an aesthetic point of view. And yeah, I know it’s a video game and am all for throwing realism out the window, but like some consistency in things. Auras and icons just stick out and contrast with everything else on screen. I’d rather pink uniforms. And despite all of this it is still the inferior solution.
The thing with limiting it to team-mates is that it can be completely optional people can then be allowed to make it as ostentatious as they want to.
What if one team chars would have radio antenna(2 feets pass the head ) and not the other one ?
We tried this already and it just didn’t work.
Completely different colour skins is the only way to resolve this to maximum satisfaction.
I don’t wish for it to look like an arcade so perhaps the best way would be to have a separate set of outfits for each team.
If the models in the game have separate meshes for body and clothing. then just altering the clothing will work.
the colour schemes are getting better and will help. if the engies helmet were different depending on your team or other clothing this is as good as two separate team models. Because it is the clothes that define the silhouette.
Can i just ask SD about the differences they are making now re colours. Is changing the clothes slightly that far away.
just for an example if 1 were rough/raggity and 1 smart/tidy <- rubbish idea but just for an example.
or if the 2 teams had a particular way of carrying their tools/weapons.
something to alter and define a teams silhouette. i have a feeling im flogging a dead horse though. need to test current model states more.
at the back …my point was just adding the more distinct stuffs could help recon friends from foes
Edit:Also My spidey sense team distinction would gain apx 25% from atennas …im pretty sure
but wouldnt be good coz it will reveal our hiding place :s
I don’t know if people say this anymore, but at least some used to say that things like differentiating teams with light/dark color schemes isn’t possible, because then it would limit color sales.
Well, color sales aren’t possible currently in the game, because everything gets either red or blue hue.
If the teams were differentiated with static light/dark colors instead of the clientside hue that is used currently, there would be much more possibilities for color sales in forms of different hues of light/dark colors, bright colored highlights on armbands or whatever. Granted if there was no color identification the color sales could go absolutely crazy, but it isn’t worth the gameplay impairments.
Why not only friendly arrows? Sometimes the IFF tag reveals the enemy position while I actually don’t see the player itself
Also the classes for the opposite team should be hidden on the scoreboard for a more advanced (tactical) gameplay.
In FarCry 3 those privateers had some yellow stripes or part of their gear colored in yellow:
Example :
In Brink even with different factions you still confused some of your fellows teammates with the enemy so if 2 different faction are used they need to enforced the gear with some SD color (dark orange) for 1 faction and WarChest color (light blue) for the other
Say what you will about Brink but it was impossible to confuse team-mates. It just did that in an extremely inelegant way with that weird orange hue over enemies. Understandeable for consoles but a complete overkill for pc.
Such a green hue over team-mates would be appreciated though.

Something like this for both teams. There should be enough areas they can sacrifice on clothing items to stick some bright colours on.
And no thanks, again, on the only identifying friendlies. Not only is it a poor option to use some effect or hud element but it also fails to give you a positive recognition on the target, you’re instead waiting to see if the target doesn’t show the effect you expect for a friendly.
Actually it was very possible and happened a lot, why? Customisation…

A suggestion I had back for that game.
Both the team and the enemy indicators were huge. I never had issue with this.
I do like your suggestion though. But even with that textural clarity it is not enough to rely on. If you see something move in the shadows then you need to be confident to know by reflex whether or not it’s an enemy. And I think the most elegant way to achieve that is to make the team-mates ridiculously clear.

I like Farcry3 on many aspects

Now this is the minimum we need to have added.
Would improve things 100%.
