Well yeah because we’re talking about a very specific role here. Only one person gets to pick the specific objective for a limited amount of time so I really wonder how important weapon selection is in this context. By letting the player keep all his stuff and strength for the most part you’re making the role of the carrier less distinct and more superficial.

I really like the idea of making the carrier very vulnerable and therefore reliant on his team. A secondary weapon limit and a slow down would achieve that.

I also think that only allowing the secondary would accentuate the class differences for the carrier even further as well as pushing the use of side-arms more because I still don’t see those enough around. The soldier would be the only one who gets to carry with a rifle, the covert would be the only one with an automatic side arm.

It would be even more interesting once new specialisations prop up. A carrier with a throwing knife or whatever, it all would add something really odd to the objective and increase the variation between the matches.

The only time not been able to shoot whilst carrying an objective worked well was in the powerball mod for ET and it only worked because the whole mod worked around that premise and that both teams could carry the ball meaning if you were under fire you could throw the ball at the enemy and it which they automatically pick up and were unable to shoot, made for some epic moments and interesting tactics. Obviously you can’t do this in db as it’s an attack and defence based game.

Well, if what it requires to work is use the carriably “offensively” (making the defender unable to shoot in that mod), make it so that if you throw the carriable at the defender he loses health :stuck_out_tongue:
Or, make it so that the defenders return the carriable by holding it on their hands for couple moments, THEN throwing it at the defender would bring some epic moments and interesting tactics. Actually I really want to try this now, if only for fun :smiley:

Bottomline: no matter how you fix this SD, just let us throw the damn thing

I don’t mind picking up the objective - but not being able to shoot and spending time delivering is more of an issue for me.

I’m a fan of getting the objective to a point and it instantly being delivered (like the last patch). There are so many down to the wire moments with that game mechanic, and it is strategic for players at the same time - Do you stop and shoot at the enemies or do you attempt to run past them and capture?! Makes things very interesting.

This is problem for me is exponentially compounded because there is an existing bug of both offense/defense having instant-spawns of 0 seconds on all maps - making it a bit hard to clear out the defense for successful delivery :wink:

In our initial tests you were able to throw the carryables to your teammates - you might see that in one of our dev videos soon (not sure on vid release schedule so can’t really say). Anyway, we disabled that due to the huge potential for griefage. Having it throwable to enemies and have them return it by holding is an interesting idea. Having the item occupy an inventory slot is also an option we’re considering, so you’d be able to use your weapons while carrying.

Also might bring some unwanted events like throwing it outside of map or on top buildings …:smiley:
