But they also come with mercs. The cases are just an extra.
Can we talk about the BS that is the cases in the new starter packs?

And credits, which you can buy normal cases with…so why not get expert cases instead? You’ll get less sure but at least you’ll get better cards.
Pretty clear exactly how much you are saving no? Announcement for reference. Plenty of players bought starter packs to be able to play the game before it went into open beta. For new players that take interest in the game the appeal will be the mercs, cases are a bonus.

To be honest I have to agree with the op, these should at least be Expert Cases with Bronze to Cobalt cards. Not that I don’t understand the need to make money but, that’s a bad deal imo, lead and iron cards are worthless, so getting those at all in a starter pack is a dealbreaker.
The point is to get cheaper mercs for beginners not to supply anybody with bu> @watsyurdeal said:

I think beginner does not care about some random stuff when he needs 1-2 cards with specific perks. So the credit allows him to buy bronze card for his favourite merc.
The prices are really good, especially compared to other games. You get 15 mercs for $50? That’s pretty damn good. The golden cases are a joke though, and I don’t necessarily like the starter packs (mainly because they’re STARTER packs). I have money I’d love to throw at SD, but there’s nothing for me to spend it on. Elite/Expert cases are a waste of money because of the crafting system. Silver/Gold cards are pretty useless for trading up as their prices don’t match up.
From a new player’s perspective, I’m not sure how I feel. On one hand, it’s a great value for the money, but on the other, it’s pointless. As a new player, I’d want to get a feel for the game and start out by unlocking things myself by playing. (probably wouldn’t even know about the starter packs).

I wanted to support SD so i bought 10 elite cases just to obtain some useless cards. I play Aura 90% of time so the chance to get me gold+ card with decent perks is 0,000 something.
And about me being new player i would be happy to have more mercs to choose from in the beginning. In paladins i bought merc bundle almost instantly and even here bought Humble Bundle with Dirty Bomb mercs and cards.

Honestly they could just have 1, 3, and 5 elite cases and that would work imo.
But the thing I don’t agree with is the golden equipment cases. I feel like you could easily rework these to have expert cases instead. But that’s just me, at this point I have most of the stuff I want for the mercs I regularly play.
As many other people have stated, these packs are aimed at new players wanting to fill out their Merc roster to give them a variety of Mercs to play from. We swapped out our ‘Down and Dirty Starter Pack’ for these which give even better value. Don’t worry though guys, we know you want stuff that you can get the most out of too. Next week is going to be…a good one.
@hawkeyeguy99 Just checking, you do know these packs all come with Mercs too? Your post reads like you think we’re just selling Cases. For reference
Odd points to argue here. People say these new stater packs make it seem pay to win. Then complain that the cases you get aren’t Elites, or guaranteed high rarity cards like cobalts.
If they were, it would look even more pay to win, since there is an incorrect view about how higher rarity cards offer higher stats of sorts, especially among newer players.
These packs are fine. Stop complaining.

Thanks for responding Shoe. This kinda blew out of proportion overnight haha… Yes, I’m aware it comes with the mercs, but to me, it still seems like for the amount of money being charged you should at least change those cases to something with extra value. I’m not going to lie, I considered buying the starter packs when I heard they were announced as I bought the last one as a cheap way to get some extra cases and credits even though I had most of the mercs included unlocked already.
But as someone who has every merc unlocked, nearly 100k credits in the bank, and about 9 cobalts to my name plus a few golds/silvers, this seems a little overpriced, even for newbies. I think my strong reaction was to the fact that you are actually selling gold equipment cases which when they were originally released I was severely underwhelmed with. Just a 1.9% difference between that and a normal equipment case isn’t much to speak of at all and it just seems wrong to sell them outright like that. The advertising makes it seem to new players that these “golden equipment cases” are a great deal that you’re getting this many, but you’re not that far off from selling them the worst kind of case you can get, and one you can get with literally 10 seconds of game time (if you join a winning team at the end of a match)
It seems shady to sell these for real money considering how easy they are to get in game, that’s why I reacted so strongly.
As for all the other stuff about the game seeming “P2W” and whatnot, I completely disagree and that was not my intention in posting this. I have nothing against these starter packs apart from the cases being sold and price points. Although I do still stand by my other statement that I severely wish SD would just add some more skins in each rarity to get. I’m not programmer but I feel like this would take hardly any effort at all and it would give new AND old players alike a reason to play again. If you do actually read this Shoe, PLEASE pass this along to whoever is in the charge of that stuff, I think it would really help inject some needed life into the late-game content.
Again, thanks for your response. I really appreciate it @stayfreshshoe

Dang it… you actually have me excited now… next week is going to be good?
For 10$ less than the crappy goty edition of OverWatch, you too can have all characters in the game!
Minus Bushwhacker (A solid engineer) and Phantom (Actually useful version of Sombra).
Plus extra goodies that don’t matter!
In all honesty though, for new players that find they really like the game, these deals are actually pretty nice. 50 bucks for a free to play game that even though they use light gacha principles, gives them all of that? It’s rather nice… I would have given more expert cases rather than gold cases…(hopefully no price change…) and given more credits, but still, the mercs alone.
This thread is stupid, no one is paying for 5 lead cases or whatever, the point of these packs is obviously to get multiple mercs and it is clearly a good deal when compared to their individual prices. The cases and credtis are just a minor thing to help people craft loadouts for those mercs they just got.
