Ohh, dont even try to make it “devs vs community” thing. There has been plenty complains from players about melee implementation.
It was clearly disbalanced as hell. And im sure there will be more nerfs in the future.
Buff chopper perk
Phantom isn’t a frontline combat unit. His role is that of a skirmisher. He is best used to delay and harass enemy units giving time for the rest of the team to deploy into superior defensive or offensive positions. The fact that he has a superior melee ability to other classes doesn’t mean it should be his primary method of attack, it’s just a lot more effective than someone’s combat knife.

People want to play melee Phantom because he has a fucking katana and it was marketed as being his specialty alongside his refractive armor. It’s moot to use him for gunning when other mercs are simply superior in speed and health. He’s useless, and he isn’t unique or special to any other merc anymore. The cloak might make him unique, but it’s too visible, and there’s not much justification for using it to absorb hits.
There’s just no reason to use him, since he was nerfed too hard. But if I read into the round-up today, I feel like there’s some slight hope that he will receive some tuning again in the next patch to give him a purpose and make him a bit more useful than he is now. Crossing my fingers.

He wasn’t marketed around his Katana though…it was just shown off/unveiled with him. They said that other mercs would gain access to it at some point. RedEye currently has the Kukri as a melee weapon that only he has. Were you under the impression that you were supposed to melee only as him too? The Katana was unveiled as a weapon currently unique to him but not as a way of defining him.

Because it’s a shooter. You are supposed to shoot with your gun, not bouncing and knifing around. Or play the little ninja like during the first release of Phantom. That period was truly garbage.
Idek why Phantom was nerfed that hard, like what happened during the Alpha stages. Fragger and other assault/recon mercs are all focused on killing too, it’s just that they’re older mercs and people know how to deal with them, unlike when Phantom came out.

Heaven forbid an FPS game have more elements to it than just shooting. On that logic lets get rid of mines. Proxies shouldn’t be hopping around and placing those down to kill people, it’s a shooter. Let’s get rid of sticky bombs. You see those Fletchers just tossing those around like it’s their primary? Disgusting, it’s a shooter. Let’s just have a boring game where you can fire a gun and that’s it, finally a pure shooter.

For that matter, why not do exactly that? Many have stated the invisibility is useless at this point, so use the damage shield to close the gap after taking the opening shots on your opponent. Then go in to terrorize them with the katana. I would honestly suggest keeping the duel to gunplay in that scenario, in particular if you can get the jump on the Fragger. If you can keep your crosshair on his head you should be able to finish him before you would have enough time to close that gap for the melee slices.[/quote]
I actually want the old chopper back mainly because the nerf screwed over the other mercs rather than Phantom, which is screwed by default now.

Okay… You’re supposed to shoot with your gun. Then where does Dr.Evil’s “Giant Laser” of doom from the moon in Kira come into play or why is this acceptable in your “Shoot with guns only” shooter game? Or actually pretty much everything… Mines, Artillery… etc.
