Brink's objective wheel equivalent?

Hehe true.

All three of these together would be wonderful. Particularly a letter-based vsay system (Tribes VGS system is really top-notch), with some visual queues and/or the option to accept called-out missions that give you a waypoint.

I don’t see us doing something the same as the mission wheel for this game, but maybe something similar. The mission wheel was good for communication and directing play but as an interface it wasn’t very nice to use.

What we’re more likely to go with is something like the context menu that was in ETQW. A small menu you can bring up with 6-8 really important v-says around the side (to make communication faster) as well as a center icon which if clicked generates a v-say based on the target under the reticule.

For example, if I click to bring up the menu then click on a friendly Medic it would cause the v-say “I need a Medic” to play, as well as highlighting my friend and foe indicator yellow for that medic, so he knows I’ve asked him for help.

This would work in a similar way for targeting objectives, damaged EVs, the Fire Support class etc.

It’s not quite to the extent of previous missions systems, but it should result in faster and easier to use communication and causing ‘objective’ highlights for the players that need to respond to them.

The perfect system I can think of would be:

  • vsays as we have now (v21 etc), but that can be controlled both by numbers and letters. (So you could do v21, of vws for instance). I honestly love this system and have found no equivalent. It’s quick and easy, any kind of wheel or something that requires mouse movement to select stuff is tedious and wastes precious time. Vsays should be a replacement for voip if you’re mic isn’t working so they should be as instant as voip is.

Then in addition to vsays have a smart button (like the smart stuff on Q) Here are a few examples of what it would do:

  • Point at medic and press button: “I need a medic”
  • Point at EV: “Disable/Repair the EV”
  • Point at Fdops: “I need ammo”
  • Point at ammo/health pack: “Ammo/Health here”
  • etc

This would also display a little exclamation icon like in dota2 on the minimap that shows up for the relevant parties. (IF you’re pointing at a medic only he needs to hear it/ be aware of who’s requesting)

EDIT: Maybe you could expand a little bit on the second idea too, like pointing at the EV and pressing the button wouldn’t immediately say something but instead navigate straight to the Objective commands in the vsay menu and allow you to pick repair/disable/etc yourself. (Just an aid in navigating the vsay menu faster)

Wasn’t there a system that also alphabetized the vsays in another game? Instead v21, it would be VNM V Need Medic, or VNA V Need Ammo… honestly can’t remember.

(stealth6) #26

Ye I’m not really into the alphabetized system, but I know they use it in Tribes and I’m pretty sure it was an option in W:ET too at some point. I thought Anti would know more about it so I didn’t have to go into detail :stuck_out_tongue:

We will have both, definitely, for sure. Letters > numbers

I’ve never used it in Brink. If they were secondary objectives a text menu like ET:QW would be enough.

It is very very important to separate the requests and orders from global vsays, responses and taunts logically by type of vsay. Then, like in ETQW , as soon as a request or ordering vsay is activated by someone in team, the issuer location should be blinking on the command map. Currently it is almost impossible to find a person who called out for ammo, medkit or revive, especially if he’s moving. Command map feedback for some vsays is absolutely important. I hope it is planned.

I’d go as far as saying that there should be modifications to the icons on your team to show if people are defending/attacking/requesting/responding etc. Also the Team Overlay could show this detail. The command map, as it is now, is very hard to read due to the scale and colouring, although icons on the edges may be a good addition.

Again I wish default Hud stay the more simple as possible …and i think like it is now its pretty simple.BUT…I wont mind and im for extra functions could be activate via the options tab for the ones that want a more pro/comp mode
