Brink is an OpenGL game, not DirectX.

(directx needed for input and audio, but dx9 should be sufficient)

Why are minimum requirements always asked for PC games? Stop gaming on the bare minimum and spend the $250/year to keep a current system. It’s a lot more enjoyable and less effort than hunting for console tweaks to disable hidden stuff.

If you don’t have at least:
>Core 2 Duo or Athlon II X2
>HD3800/4600 or 8800GT/GTS 250
>2GB XP/4GB 7
…then you don’t have an appropriate gaming PC.

Also requirements like dual hexcores and SLI GTX 480 aren’t going to pop out of nowhere. Industry knows better.

85% of steam users have at least dual core.
40% appear to have a decent gaming card. I’m guessing “other” means all the Geforce 7 and X1000 crap. Those will game just fine with older titles, but it’s unrealistic to assume they will keep up today.
73% have at least 4GB of ram

hm… that means if game is in openGL that it will not support dx11? (just curious)

(Auzner) #25

Uh, no? They’re not the same thing or related since they’re different APIs.

Also something to keep in mind:
The first DX9 cards were Geforce FX and Radeon 9800
The last DX9 cards were Geforce 7 and Radeon X1000.
Do you see many GF FX’s playing Bioshock, Call of Duty 2, and Doom 3 at the level of a Geforce 7?
Do you see much difference between the supposed “DX9” and “DX10” versions of these games?

So buy your DX11 card now and when DX11 games become mainstream it will be like an FX trying to run Bioshock. The ones currently out hardly use much of DX11 to have any visual improvements over DX10. Unfortunately those who had an HD4000 or GTX 200 then upgraded to the 5000 or 400 wasted their money unless they jumped tiers. And I mean going from X6XX to X8XX etc. The DX11 label right now is merely a lure.

5 new systems later: the release of brink

Aye, my pc hasn’t been changed for four years now and only now it’s starting to yank it’s chain at some games.
