Brink Hands-on Previews: Part Deux

(system) #21

Yes, they need to make some gameplay videos to show around instead of relying on ‘journalists’ to spread the word.

EA / Dice for BFBC2 released a series of episodes before the actual game release and those videos really did their job:

If I may:

And they’re doing again with BF3:

Oh, and notice the wasd keys poping on the screen. I guess Dice has the balls to show PC footage instead of crap stone age console gameplay.

(DarkangelUK) #23

Who is the last part a dig at out of curiosity?

(system) #24

Errrr, I don’t understand the question.

(DarkangelUK) #25

Just wondering if this was just a general statement or was it a dig at any developer in particular?

(system) #26

Yes! Most definitely.

(trigg3r) #27

I was looking at IGN’s GDC 2011 page, and searching through the list of games there, and couldnt find brink; crysis 2 is there, battlefield 3 is there but no Brink :(. Anyway, here’s the link http://www.ign.com/events/gdc/2011/games

Didn’t Splash Damage said they were attending GDC?

(system) #28

Splash Damage are more concerned with earning stupid awards from all kinds of unknown game magazines.

(DarkangelUK) #29

Bethesda handle the PR, not SD…

(SebaSOFT) #30

Also, why should BRINK compete with BFBC2/3 again?

Team sizes are different, companies are different, why SD should hire a pletora of animators and writers / scripters just to release a bunch of videos?

Clearly this practices belongs to well established IP’s

(Kinjal) #31

One of the members of our forum, after watching this video, said something like a –

“Good video…damn , bf will be released in fall but it’s already have a nice video of the first mission…Brink will be released in may, and all that I seen so far is a lag video with girl playing! WTF?”

I’m not agreeing with his opinion but, who cares what I think, majority see only that a game is always demonstrated on controller. The BF3 have a very strong point, and it’s not about “well known ip” or even “good videos”. The fact is - major platform is PC, I say it again MAJOR PLATFORM IS PC, not consoles.

“We won’t make it for console and port it to PC – that’s not how we do things,” Bach says. “We’re focusing on PC first, and then we fiddle with it to fit it onto consoles.” - Patrick Bach

Even if multiplayer in BF3 for PC is for 64 players and consoles are limited to 24, that’s 40 (forty) players less on a server, there are still players saying it will be a console port. More so, so far they have only showed to the press the PC version, not even a screenshot from consoles has been showed so far.

Anyway, Brink doesn’t need to compare/compete with BF3, I just want it to be more present, in videos, actual gameplay, not walls of text on sites that just a few people read.

Hardly anyone knows about this game!!!

(trigg3r) #33

nobody is saying it should compete, i just put crysis 2 and battlefield 3 as examples of 2 games which are beeing released one recently and the other later this year, and they are both there showing their stuff.

why SD should hire a pletora of animators and writers / scripters just to release a bunch of videos?

advertising? you have no idea how many ppl i’ve come across that have never heard or seen a video of Brink.

(Herandar) #34

Have those people heard or seen video of Breach? Rage? The Grinder? Aliens: Colonial Marines? Ghost Recon Future Soldier? Any other upcoming original FPS game that I’ve never heard of?

Or Modern Warfare 3: Activision’s Next Billion Dollar Game, for that matter?

with the exception of Breach, none of the games you have listed are released in 2 months like Brink is, in fact some of them dont even have a release date announced.

(Maawdawg) #36

Then just substitute this list…

Red Faction: Armageddon, FEAR 3, and Duke Nukem Forever.

Have they seen advertising for RF:A or FEAR? Do they know DNF is finally going to come out, or even that is after a decade of issues? The first two don’t have much media or print or even previews out at all, and DNF is only being covered so heavily because of its imperfect history. None of them are being advertised yet.

Games in that launch window like Brink and the ones I mentioned, mid-late May release, aren’t really pushing marketing yet. When Bulletstorm and Killzone 3 are still the “shooters of the minute” due to recent launches and Crysis 2 is in its final marketing run to launch it doesn’t make sense to push media now for a game coming out in 75-80 days and have it lost in the shuffle or forgotten by then. It wouldn’t be good marketing value.

(Schwarzeis) #37

So… Will we actually get any new footage or information? For I have read most of the previews and seen all the interviews, the new things were probably just these 3 screenshots, and the knowledge of knowing that guns will be unlocked through leveling, and customziation options and attachments comes from the Challenges in Challenge Mode

I also noticed alot of the talk in the interviews were much the same, no nothing here, and the previews just wrote everything we’ve known since forever

Will they feed their dogs? With the dogs being us and the food being gameplay/new information in text form

(Tec) #38

+1 about that.

Still i’m wating/hoping for demo (online or offline) announcement.
