perhaps from now i feel we have shead some light to some of my personal preconseptions, some things i suspected from the game seem to be true others misconseptions.

The more feed back that comes from this the more we can take common themes from each comment to come to a more accurate truth, so i welcome any further input or discussion. Especially from those who have had the rare chance to attended PAX or CSE and have experienced it first hand.
Fair enough, but i think you will find that your worries about teamplay are not neccessary, splash damage are experts at team based games, and a game from experts in teamwork, with an emphasis on teamwork will no doubt have lots of teamwork, in all different forms. Including the main one you were worried about, which will be most predominate. The other individual objective scheme is merely a side dish to the meal, aimed to help those who usually dont help the team.

side objective creates alternate attack/flanking routes. helps to make it so that not every person changes to the main class to complete the main obj and wonders why their team is failing

tf2 doesn’t enforce team play. Furthermore, everyone on the team can be a single class and still win.
In Wolfenstein ET, you just can’t win if you don’t coordinate. If you are an engy, you need cover for when you plant the dynamite. There needs to be a medic behind you, or the respawn timer could destroy your team. I have participated in some “high skill” matches and everyone HAS to have a specific role in your team. Even in pubs, with total strangers around you, saying “You 2 go around, me and my buddy will cover” does the thing.
Brink has less players, so even more coordianation is needed. But it balances out that you only have 4 classes, which all are NECESSARY to win (medic isn’t necessary for the objective, but if 3 players are down that’s a big disadvantage) so you can play as you want and still be useful. Cuz you have to be useful.

As much as this thread seems to have been answered it does raise a question as to whether the general (non forum reading) customer base have similar incorrect preconceptions. Bethesda/SD have spent a lot of time explaining the story, SMART, philosophy behind Brink but have they done enough to explain and distinguish the core gameplay? I wonder if it wouldn’t have been an interesting move to give W:ET a lick of paint, some marketing money and use it as a tool to promote Brink.

That would only serve to edumacate the PC crowd, missing a rather large piece of the total prospective customer baswe.

True, totally forgot that and there’s no cheap way to do it on consoles. Shame id haven’t got round to doing W:ET Live yet. Guess we’re back to using video’s to explain game mechanics.

I think this is something important to tackle though as a segment of people walking into a game expecting TF2 or BF or some other ideal and then being disappointed is only going to lead to negative word of mouth. Brink really should be underscoring what makes it unique and differenciates it from the competition.
