If they cant answer simple question means they pee on us so I pee on them. I’m done with brink played just over 100h and it’s my biggest dissapointment so far and it cost me 25 pounds too. Awesome isn’t it?
Questions about DLC in UK have been on forum since game release and no one even attempted to answer it.
At least Global Agenda went F2P and thats the game I enjoy 100% more than brink ;o
Brink DLC available in UK via Steam??
AFAIK GAME have an exclusive to sell this in the UK hence why it isn’t directly available on Steam. There is no reason why that agreement applies to any DLCs…but I’m not an expert at this.
Considering I can’t get to the store page, I doubt I’ll be able to get to the DLC sub-page. Not to mention that going to the videos gives me a “this is not available in your region” page and that has nothing to do with the sales page.
I am not paying money for this because of some idiotic agreement with any brick and mortar store. I do hope they sort this out for the DLC but I must admit to being worried about it.
EDIT: I don’t mean I’m against buying DLC. I am against stupid economic chokehold agreements and I am against people trying to stop me using my distribution platform of choice. I am also against the rest of the world getting something for free but being denied because the stores here are greedy [censored]s.
I don’t mean to bump this (although I guess I just did) and this’ll be the last time I ask:
Any word from official sources on this situation?
I’ll see how things play out but I will catagorically state now that if I have to get the DLC from a store and I have to pay for it I will not get it. That will make me sad and dissapointed and probably affect my future purchases of DLC for this game (and probably my future participation in the game).
I already have to make decisions with my time about what games to play and if it’s going to be difficult to get DLC for me then I’m likely to drop it and move on (especially since getting a game will be impossible as everyone will be playing the DLC levels).
I do enjoy the game and I hope that whatever issues or agreements there are that are causing this problem with steam don’t prevent me from enjoying it, but as I said: my time is valuable and if you make it difficult form me to get my enjoyment from the game then my time is better spent elsewhere.
Hmmm… interestingly enough I see that another Bethesda game (Hunted: demon’s forge) is unavailable in UK too in exactly the same way that Brink is unavailable (ie: you can search and find videos but no store page and trying to access the videos gets a “Not available in your region” page).
Has Bethesda been cutting deals with local distributors to block Steam in the UK? If this isn’t sorted out prior to the DLC then I’m sorry SD, but next time go with a better distributor. Bethesda are killing your chances.
If I’m wrong make a statement saying so but all I have to go on is what I can find on the internet since noone official is willing to talk.
Seriously: Steam doesn’t undercut the retail stores (in fact the stores often have better deals when they bother to keep stock) and you might actually have a PC community in the UK if you allowed people to buy it from where they wanted.

I have a question: Is Steam the only way you can play Brink? You can buy Brink in a regular store and also play on the dedicated servers, right? Why can’t you download the DLC directly from the menu and dedicated server?
No matter how you buy the game (instore or from steam) it’s activated on steam and plays through steam. The DVD from the store is basically a backup of the game and just means you don’t need to download it, but you still activate it on steam with the key provided.
This is fine to a point (I got my copy by preordering on steam and it was fulfilled as normal) except that DLC sales are done via steam. When you click DLC it opens up the steam page for the game where normally (outside the UK) you can view the game details and purchase any DLC if there is any (this is how it works in pretty much any steam game). The problem is that the Steam page is blocked for UK users so it simply comes up with an “Oops. This item is not available in your region” page.
If this isn’t sorted before the DLC comes out then we’re forced to go to the shops to get it (since it won’t be a content patch as they plan to charge for it in the future). If that’s the case I very much doubt that the shops will be giving away copies of the DLC for free.
I will not support such a stupid trade agreement and the only way I can vote is with my money. If it comes to it I will walk away. I’ve had fun with the game but I refuse to be treated badly by a publisher who I’m trying to give my money to. I have many games I can play and if this is going to be a hassle I’ll simply play something else.
It sucks but I absolutely hate agreements like this especially when the high street stores make their money off console gamers and treat the PC portion of their store like some sort of unwanted minority. It’s stupid. GAME gave away 2 outfits with their preorders. If they can’t incentivise people away from steam with their offers and prices then they shouldn’t require protection from the publisher.
I considered preordering from GAME for the 2 outfits instead of just the one but it’s a hassle for me to pick up especially since I work and they tend to close before I can get to them. I could have picked up the game during my lunch but really, it’s less hassle for me to order through steam and the price difference wasn’t enough to lure me instores.
And the straw that breaks the camel’s back here is the absolute silence around the issue. When it was first pointed out (the day of release) there was a tweet from Bethesda saying something like “We’re aware of the issue and we’re looking into it.”
This was obviously a lie since it has been months and they still haven’t fixed it. And they haven’t said anything more on the issue. Not even “We’re sorry but that channel is not available for sale in the UK.” Even that would better than silence.
The only reason I can see why this is so is someone (the publisher) is incentivised to cut some exclusivity deals. Screw that!
TL;DR: I refuse to support a publisher who screws me over like this and I will partake no more if the situation is not rectified. It’s a pity because I like the game.
Happy happy news to the people on PC in the UK:

The Brink page is back up on steam
Who knows why it was ever gone (thanks for the silence Bethesda) but at least it looks like we’ll be able to get our DLC easily from our preffered distributor (feel free to visit the stores if you prefer… I, personally, like steam).
I suspect that since it went live on the first of the month that a certain exclusivity deal just ran out shifty eyes @ Bethesda. Just say so next time! (also makes me wonder if they were waiting for this to release the DLC?)
