…Today I installed the new 12.1 Catalyst for me PowerColor 6950. Now Brink does not work anymore. I can get through all the menus alright, but as soon as I try to either launch a solo or multiplayer game, I am simply set back to the desktop. I tried veryfing game cache integrity, to no avail.

Yeah that was me starting the thread over there. The situation is annoying, to say the least. Rolling back to older drivers is something I don’t really feel like doing right now, as the 12.1 driver works fine with every other game. So I guess as long as this is not fixed, I’d rather simply not play BRINK. Please note that I do not blame SD solely for this issue. I bet it is for the most part a driver-sided problem of AMD.

We have identified a compatibility issue between AMD Catalyst driver version 12.1 and Brink. A fix for this will be present in AMD Catalyst driver version 12.2.

The fix is currently available in AMD Catalyst Preview driver version 12.2, but if you plan to install this we strongly advise reading through AMD’s notes first and bear in mind that this driver hasn’t yet been WHQL certified. For this and other performance reasons, the drivers for Brink we currently recommend are AMD Catalyst driver version 11.10.

Is this issue related to the fact that the crashes appeared (for me at least) as soon as Catalyst 11.7? I.e. did you trace it back to older versions as well?
As far as I remember, I skipped the 11.10 drivers but I highly doubt that AMD fixed a bug in 11.10 and reintroduced it in 11.11…

I’ll make a few tests with 11.10 before trying the 12.2beta…

I purchased Brink 1 month ago and I was never played from that time. So, I tried to join game yesterday, in game menu, there was 60 fps and seems everything is fine but when I try to join the game, after " press any key to continue " my game crashes.

My computer spec is;

And I have 12.1 AMD drivers, all my windows patches updated, all sound drivers, updated, also mainboard too, but my game crashes to desktop without a reason, just crashed to desktop.

But… I can play Battlefield 3, Skyrim or other new games with high settings.

Please help…

You should try to downgrade your drivers. Splash Damage suggests using Catalyst 11.10 (october 2011) although in my case I have to use 11.6 (june 2011) to play Brink.

The only problem you’ll have is that old drivers may have issues with other games (like Skyrim or Rage)…

ie had the same problem and have searched the internet for a solution. The game works perfectly fine until it comes to the wepon loading screen, were it shows a black and blue paint on the gun and the game crashes to desktop. any help please.

It looks like Brink is quite stable on my system with the 12.2 Catalyst drivers (it still crashed with the 12.1). I haven’t played a lot with th new drivers so far but tonight I played about 45 minutes without problem.

I’ll have to play a bit more to be sure (I guess one or two hours in a row) but it looks good.

BTW, the ambiant occlusion is still a mess with these drivers.

Seems to be good news… :slight_smile:

In the meantime I changed the ATI HD5850 card for NVIDIA GTX 560 Ti GS on my main computer!
ATI has obviously a big problem with Brink and Rage, I can wait any longer to get it resolved.

Well, ATI has obviously a big problem with lots of games. AFAIK, they had problems since they started making GPUs; I’ve always heard their drivers sucked back to the mid nineties.

That’s a shame because the hardware is good overall. Besides, I don’t want to buy nVidia anymore (since they shipped defective chips worldwide a few years ago and hoped no one would notice).

Yesterday evening, I played a bit longer after posting my message and had no further issues. I hope the problem is fixed.

Finally, I’m not sure it works so well with the Catalyst 12.2. Tonight, the game started to lag a lot after about 1 h 30 of play. More and more of lag and then it just froze. I had to kill the process.

EDIT : not sure if it’s related but in the last log file, a bit priori to the crash, I have lots and lots of repeated errors like that:
