Brink Addict's Q&A With Splash Damage

My specualtion came from seeing it listed as an ability on Horses compendium.

Like you said, BC2 had health and defibs as unlocks, along with repair tools. You can’t do that in Brink because then you couldn’t do the objectives. Maybe health you could do as an unlock but not resuraection (escort NPC mission), but even there they would have balanced the map as if health were available.

So it makes sense all those (repair, health, revive) are all core abilities, and it should follow that ammo and being able to buff weapons would be as well so all classes start with similar abilities to harvest XP.

Yeah, that was my original sentiment. Good to hear.

I agree. If a soldier has the choice of handing out ammo as an ability or something else many less team oriented players will choose the other ability.

Medics don’t have health packs, at least not in the traditional sense. Medics cannot toss health to teammates, like Soliders can toss ammo. The Medic heals by using that epi-pen thing - the same thing used to buff health. It seems to be sort of a dynamic tool, both healing and buffing health, according to what the Medic wants to do. By viewing videos, It looks like the amount of time you hold down the use button, determines how much health you restore, so Medics need to be up close to heal teammates, not simply hiding behind cover tossing medkits.

I do not have medkits or handing out health as an ability. I have “Life Buff,” which, as it name implies, is a buff - it adds bonus health, not initial healing.

Things that each class can do from the start appear to be

Medics can heal and revive
Engineers can build/repair and buff weapons
Soldiers can arm charges
Operatives can hack

Ammo Boxes is an ability, so it seems that they cannot give out ammo by default.

huh? are you saying can toss a syringe to a downed guy but to give health you need to stick him with the syringe yourself instead of tossing it to him?

Never said you did, all I said was I saw ammo boxes listed as an ability.

This means Soldiers may start out behind Medics and Engineers in their ability to level up quickly. Probably operatives do as well. Remember in the first couple of demo’s the medics and engies were at the top of the leaderboards (but could be the map favored them, certainly engies to repair the bot).

It’ seems like maybe the class best positioned for a jackrabbit start in garnering XP to level up would be the medic (obviously that’s highly speculative and may not be the case at all, so no need to point that out).

Medics are the highest rewarded class in most games I’ve played.

Yes. This is the impression I git from what Exedore said:

Medics work in reverse to the other classes; their buffs are close proximity, and their interactions over downed players is ranged, whereas it’s opposite for Soldiers and Operatives (Engineers as well, but they have no interactions with downed players specifically, they just hide mines under them).

I think it’s the same as giving ammo, target guy, see his health, push square on PS3

Correct that giving ammo, buffing health/reviving, and gun buffs are all core abilities for the Soldier/Medic/Engineer classes, they don’t have to be bought.

At a certain rank though, you can buy an ability to boost the power of whichever core ability…

Thanks for clarifying Exedore  sounds good.
