The very reason why I DO NOT want to have “Brink 2” now, or next year, or the year after that. They must give themselves some time to let this (bad)one cool off for the moment, and also, I think polishing this game first is the best they could do in the meantime.
Brink 2: Would You Buy It?
If there was a Brink 2.
I would expect more of these.
- More interaction with the environment or destructive environment especially with those grenade launchers
- Weather system go from sunny to cloudy to raining or heavy winds (come on we’re in the middle of the ocean.)
- More open world and diversity
- Vehicles aka jet skis or underwater objectives
- Demo Recorder/theater mode to make machinma vids.
OMG yes to #1! Please let me break glass at the very least!
Seconded #1 too. It could give those explosives that additional “OOMPH!” this game deserves. Shoot, they could nerf the grenades’ damage all they want, I’ll be a very happy puppy seeing thrash/debris fly everywhere every time a grenade explodes on Container City.
If SD won’t die after Brink…
Upon seeing the materials about the new SD game, I will divide its perceived coolness by 3 to account for SD’s bull**** marketing. If I like the result, I’ll buy it.
Since I’ve been in the software industry since 1995, with some of that time in the videogame industry, I can assure you that the minute a game/product is released, the team might take a month or so “off” to recoup lost time with families or on the golf course, but then they’re right back at making their next game.
SD might very well be starting production on Brink 2 or perhaps a Brink 1.5 (kind of like Bad Company 2’s Vietnam mode). They’ve worked so hard making this new IP, there’s no way they’re just going to trash that all now and start from scratch. Plus, the game has now sold over a 1 million copies worldwide. So even though it wasn’t the critical success they hoped, it was still a bread winner.
If I were in charge at SD/Bethesda, I’d be starting high-level production on Brink 2 with a release date in 2-3 years, while most of the rest of the team would continue work on supporting the current Brink with fixes and DLC content (that’s already been produced, just needs dev and testing).
I am looking forward to anything Brink, whether it be fixes/updates, DLC, or Brink 2. I am buying it all.
As far as what I’d like to see in Brink 2:

It’s a looooong read. Props to you if you read it all.

All good ideas. On issue 2, there is supposed to be weather in the game. If you look and listen, while playing sec tower, it is supposed to be raining. The rain just doesnt show up. Its an issue with the game. I have heard the thunder and rain falling. Also, at the end of the match, at the menu screen, I have seen rain falling(xbox360). Check it out and pay closer attention. I have addressed this in another post.
One thing I would like to add to the list is, taking better advantage of the playing spaces that are created. Several maps, i.e. shipyard, have alot of “waisted space”. Its a great map but much of the space isnt even consiedred in the overall battle.
Second thing, you have smart. Lets have more than a couple of exits for spawn points. Utilize the smart system more in the spawns, with more exits, and you can be more effective at stopping spawn camping. Simply have the exits come out at locations that are distant from each other, having one or two come out on ledges that are not reachable by opposing teams…
Also, I really like the jetski idea, however, there would have to be a HUGE performance gain in the netcode. I am still having serious lag issues every now and then. At least 1 out of 5-6 games is terrible, usually the games with more humans.
If I were to buy BRINK 2, it would not be by pre-order, although I did get a really cool T-shirt. I would have to rent it first. I will admitthat I was emotionally attached to BRINK well before it came out. I have been waiting for something like this for a long time. UAV’s, heli’s, bombers and all that get tiresome and BRINK is erfreshing even though it was heavily faulted at launch. The game is good, has the potential to be great, I enjoy it. I just wish, like many others that launch had not been so terrible. I could even stomach that if something was done quicker to fix these issues. SD HAD to know that they existed at launch.

Pretty much what I think. Only thing I’d add is with Brink 2 placing an emphasis on by far the 1# complaint and criticism: Create a more traditional Campaign Story feel. (key word: feel) and make it noob-friendly in the campaign mode.
thats a question that cannot be answered. i mean, you dont know nothing about brink2.
i just dont think we will ever see a brink2. brink has very bad reputation for the majority of people who bought it. the majority already gave up on brink. only hardcore fans still play it. my server browser shows less than 100 people that currently play it.
that is no problem for me though. my problem are the reasons so many people left. brink has its flaws and some of them are major flaws that destroy the gaming experience.
aside from the technical aspect, the poor optimization, it is horribly, horribly unbalanced. and it gets worth and worth as people learn to exploit the weak spots of the maps. there are maps where your team cant even escape its spawning area. there are a few of these maps and the spawnrape actually happens pretty often. combined with some major chokepoints where its impossible to progress forward. the game often becomes a camping game where the defense sits on one spot and the offense runs into them. there is no dynamic.
these are the reasons more and more people leave the game. or at least thats the reason for me to not go back to the game that often. it gets frustrating and i dont like getting frustrated when i play a game. actually i want to cheer up when i play a game. brink fails to cheer me up pretty often now.
if these things dont get fixed, and the really sad thing is that its already official announced that the maps cannot be changed, only a handfull of hardcore fans will keep playing the game. in a few weeks we see what happened with wolf:et and etqw over several years. and thats pretty disappointing.
Agreed!
This would be a great addition for a medic.
Agreed. Smoke nade is cool for a medic. I realize smoke grenade could help an operative hide while hacking…but so what!
oh, its worse. actually didnt notice this.
sry dude. im german. english is not my native language.

Well, your entire post was well written. Just that one part made me laugh.
Absolutely not since SPLASH DAMAGE signed a long term deal with BETHESDA and they are the ones who changed the original team and there focus. At least that is what I would like to think. If this was all SD’s doing then this game is an even bigger disappointment, because that means they went from being real gamers/modders to businessmen who care about quantity and not quality.
I know all companies need to make money, but maybe if they had spent less time and money marketing and more time actually building a quality product then maybe just maybe the ARK would not be the ghost town that it is. In the end though they won. Just over a million copies sold so they covered production costs by probably 5 fold.
Also, I’d like the smoke nade to FULLY CONCEAL anyone in or behind the smoke. I hate how in CoD or BFBC2 that you can still shoot through the smoke and get hit markers. That defeats the purpose.
The smoke nade in Brink should fully conceal any and all movement and position of people covered by it. If enemies wanna shoot into the cloud, they can of course, but they should never know if they’re wasting bullets or hitting someone.
If they want to make it more of a team effort type of ability, then give it to the Op so they have to work together with the Medic (to conceal healing) or the Assault/Engy to conceal movement/Obj stuff.
Thread needs a poll.
And no.
If so, the Poll needs (to be frank) read as follows:
( ) Xbox Yes
( ) Xbox No
( ) PS3 Yes
( ) PS3 No
( ) PC Yes
( ) PC No
( ) Xbox/PS3 Maybe
( ) PC Maybe
( ) Not sure at all
( ) Not gonna buy it no matter what (Why am I even here?)
For it to be a more revealing poll…
Let the chips fall…
(Not trying to start a flamewar:) )
