bombarded with toxicity (a review)

The most enjoyable matches for me in terms of teamwork and low toxicity are USUALLY in min 10 servers. Certainly not always the case but those servers can offer a better perspective on the DB community.

I have the exact opposite experience when I join min10 servers. I’ve never been on DB servers with more consistent salt and rage than the Min10 servers.

its okay to be a dick to dicks

Not really. They are successful if you argue with them. The best thing to do against dicks is to ignore them.[/quote]

well, if someone is raging about stoker being op and calling your teammates shitters, add more fire to the fire and cause them to go full retard. its sometimes easier to trigger salty rage filled motherfuckers than feminists.

Not by much mind you, with most feminists just call them darling

There are a lot of opinions here that I expected to see, the very typical ideology that the person touting slurs is the norm and that this isn’t a problem is kind of the core concept that guides me to bring this kind of post into light in the first place.

Bontsa gets it.

the typical ‘get thick skin’ or ‘deal with it’ only enforces the idea that the majority condones these toxic individuals (if at the very least through inaction). Nor should I be expected to start the match by muting everyone in the game to avoid dealing with them. A discrete, functional upvote/downvote system would put an end to a lot of the general childish name-calling antics that people resort to when things don’t go their way.

As previously mentioned, I’ve been around plenty of toxic communities, APB:Reloaded and League of legends are two shining examples of them. League of legends, however curbs a great deal of that toxicity with a community moderated system, and APB:R gives you easy access to a social environment where you can find squads and friends with ease that helps you enjoy the game with people on a more personal level. Both of these gives you a sense of shelter from the hail of verbal abuses that, realistically, is simply not an acceptable behavior, nor a way to treat anyone, regardless of the means of communication you’re using to do so.

I won’t claim that all of this hate is aimed at me, in fact it rarely has been, but it doesn’t need to be, for me to see it. People call each other out in all chat, I can even see it from the enemy team, say nasty things to each other; And in all accounts, it’s plain to see that most of these people are negative, simply because other people are. -Negativity breeds negativity.

I’m not bothered by people saying mean things to me on a personal level. However, there is no question that positive interactions with people in a game, make people consider that game in a more positive light. Creating a healthy, friendly environment for new players to feel welcomed will give them all the reasons they need to continue playing and achieve ‘git gud’ status. Not only that, but if the person who is carrying the team, or obliterating your team, is incentivized to be constructive with new players, instead of berating them for how bad they are, those new players are going to be much more likely to never pick up the habit of responding with abuse.

@Amerika LOL. I guess no servers are salt free. Definitely some rage but generally a better experience for me (US East). I notice more level grief and hackusations in normal servers but I’m lower than you in level and skill.

Had a nice one a few days ago…kept going on about how the whole team sucked, especially me and this other person…blaming me and this other person for losing (Okay it wasn’t my best performance but it’s not like I had a .125 k/d ratio) Other guy was being really positive…and saying good job and such when the team did something good…this idiot was telling him to shut up.

Loud mouth kept spouting off…played another game and I was even on his team…long story short I was 2nd or 3rd in points and had decent k/d ratio…he was second to last in score and barely broke 1/1.

No real moral of the story, just made that loudmouth eat his words. (He left the server right after we won the game) Like others have said…you just need to ignore them and move on…it’s the internet and losers have no problem playing bullies when they can hind behind a keyboard.

There’s nothing normal about toxicity in online gaming. I’ve been playing multiplayer games forever, and Dirty Bomb is the first one I’ve ever encountered spewing racial and homophobic slurs on a regular basis.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not suggesting that it’s the only game where this happens. I know that it’s not. I’m just making the point that this is not so typical that the OP should be made fun of as this being his first game, nor suggested in so many words that everyone should just shrug their shoulders with indifference when toxicity happens.

Thank you so much for removing that post, it triggered me so hard I had to make a post about it on my blog!
