mercs are a little bit cartoonish. reminds me of brink a lot.
i dont say that’s bad - because sometimes it makes the game realy fun - like proxy’s bat it is hilarious.
but with mercs like Rhino, Sparks - the universe of the game cannot get serious enough to be grim and gloomy.
i feel, that the game will benefit from getting more serious. i mean the whole city is gone, several millions of ppl lost their home, etc.
some mercs are great, for example, Stoker, Fragger, Fletcher and some others - realy look like they went thoug a lot, had tough times, Fletcher is an engineer-turned soldier, when his whole family vanished. so he invented his little mines in the garage…
but Rhino…we call, him Hamster in our TS. he is so funny =)
Sparks is like fashion model - though she is great in design.
so i think:
more damage (car chrashes, ruins, fallen cranes etc), more death (blood, more signs like "HELP US!!"on buildings), more mystery, more serious.
Same here. But we have to keep in mind, that it wasn’t an A-Bomb, or an actual war, that had caused this huge abandoning of London. So there’s only so much what they can do with the environment. I think you could compare the post-apocalyptic London with the cities and villages around Chernobyl(the real Chernobyl).
I already pointed out in another thread, that XT bears some similarities with Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl. But instead of a variety of different Stalkers you got a variety of different mercs here.
Btw., wouldn’t all the mercs would’ve to wear some kind of masks? Though I actually prefer to have an open view on those pretty girl merc faces
Idk, I don’t think, that that would make it that much more exciting, if the cities themself still wouldn’t look that much different from how they do now(in RL). Even though SD drew a pretty realistic portrayal of a post dirty bomb London, I would’ve loved to see more abandoned and overgrown APCs and tanks and such stuff, as well as much more overgrowth and garbage in general.
A Brink level of fleshed out story(cut scenes, audio logs and a narrated proplogues and epilogues) would already be good enough, but until now XT doesn’t feature anything of that kind.
I think with backstory most people mean, that we’d need some main protagonists that lead us through the maps and are holding this whole XT-world together. Chen and Mokoena were just perfect for this purpose; even though I would’ve loved too see them interact more with their troops. I felt Chen and Mokoena were a bit too seperated from their “soldiers”. But then again, I think that was kind of the point. Mokoena and Chen were two sides of the same coin and they were equally egotistical. And they wouldn’t care very much for individual subordinates. They had their goals and they wouldn’t stick at anything to achieve them.
However, I’d like to have some main characters in the XT-verse and not just some merc guys in a “generic” story/setting.
PS: Here are some pics of the abandoned Prypjat(inclusive the “Prypjat Eye”)
I personnally like the fact that the universe is not post-apocaliptic. There is too much post-apocalitic stuff everywhere, it’s boring. Post apocalyptic means destroy, destroy means grey and brown atmoshphere and I really prefer the colored style Xt/DB has.
YOU ARE WRONG! The answer is Brink!!! Just kidding:tongue: but seriously, you can make that post-apocalyptic/Mad Max/dystopian kinda stuff quite boring, I totally agree on that, and I don’t want that either(not a bit), but there are also games like said Brink and Enslaved, Borderlands and Bulletstorm, etc., etc., which are obviously a lot more colorful than XT atm.
“Post-apo” does not mean Madmax, or Rage, or Vampire-hunter D.
for me it is imaginative diversity.
Flooded libraries, Poissoned Hospitals, Ruined old architecture, Unfinished construction cites, Abandoned military bases, Sumemarkets, fallen airplanes.
something unique and authentic.
Canary Warth is an example of a nice take - though it needs more thought on the design part.
White chapel was a great example when we had inside object.
I agree, it seems like Xt is during the apocalypse, which could lead to some interesting scenarios. Maps could flesh out the story, terrorist faction hired mercs to steal uranium from nuclear power plant.
Here’s a nuclear power plant in Scotland, the setting is open and in the country and the layout actually reminds me of Refinery in ETQW… spiritual remake anyone? (before you start, take that comment with a massive pinch of salt, no “omg that wouldnt work without vehicles i mean gawd!”)
I do agree that a nice good vs bad, easy to follow story would be good, I mean someone detonated a nuke in London, anyone that does that isn’t exactly nominating themselves for a nobel peace prize.

Yeah, I gotcha. I was talking to k1ruaa and I think he was refering to the “new” post-apocalyptic hype in general, so I made my answer more general, but I can see where you’re coming from and I totally agree with that. You are basically talking about a “The Last of Us” setting. The problem with the XT setting is, that there hasn’t passed that much time since the last civilians have left the city. However, they could still change the timeline of the events in XT, so London may be abandoned since 8-10 years. They still can do that, as long as there is no official canon stuff out. They still can add the abandoned CDA APCs, the crumbled buildings and a entirely overgrown Downtown.
overal, i am against cheesy-atmosphere. like Resident-evil movies. i hate this stuff.
the current design in XT (with an exeption of some mercs designs - i cant stop laughing when RHino walljumps) is ok, it surely can fit meltdown scenario, post-bomb, post-epidemic-toxic scenario etc.
we dont see that much so far. only abandoned parts of the city. but the actual substance - when it comes out - should be dark. and all the maps will be darkened by that substance.
i realy hope for Good vs Evil, or Evil vs More Evil.
