Another forum?

And if thats not enough, then we could even setup a ‘prestige’ system or something. Where all contributers could be ranked for how much content they provided (tutorials, resources, guides, etc).

And that could be taken as far as giving ‘points’ or ‘credits’. Perhaps even a little bar by your forum avatar showing how much YOU have supported the community. Thereby, giving you recognition and respect… if thats what your after.

This system would also compel members to help the community more and more. It would be credit given, credit deserved system where those who show support, get support.

Sounds frigging brilliant to me.

So why is it that the Quake3world forums get more traffic than Joe Blows forum factory? Its because their is a general idea\concept that the q3w forums have better support and offers more stuff (cleaner design, less ads, bigger names, etc) then some unknowns’ site.

Its simply a matter of figuring out what would attract the general concensus… and to be honest I think I got a pretty solid idea of what peeps are looking for. Its not like I am doing this for self-glory or recognition. I’m not gonna put "redfellas’ supreme community site’ on the title… It will be a community project where each and every individual is credited and awarded equally.

Peeps can still have their seperate sites… All I’m asking for is consolidation… for it seems like that is what everyone is wanting anyways.

I troll the SD Forums because this happens to be where the developers of the game are, so if I have questions, and no one else can answer them, I have the game developers as a final resource. This is the only mapping forum in which I am active.

If I start mapping for CoD, I’ll hang out wherever their mappers/developers hang out, for the same reasons

From the poll, even if you did make this, rougly 1 of 5 people think it would be useful.

The numbers speak for themselves. If you really want to help out the mapping community, ask astrocreep what needs to be done. I’m sure you’ll get proper credit.

TBH, editing quake 3->wolf->et->etc. Isn’t terribly different. All the mapping / editing techniques are the same. There’s just a few changes in entities and scripting… creating a brush for Quake 3 is done the same way for ET.

From when I first posted this poll to now, my ideas for the site have grown and transformed ALOT. I first started off with intending to make a site that was gonna have a some tutorials (as many as I could make) w/ proboards… But, now I am at the point where my ideas are very ambitious and solid.

I will be releasing a document within a couple days outlining and describing exactly what I am talking about. This should prove to be better explanation of some of my intentions…

I like you redfella cause you’re determined. Even though everyone here, and the poll, are telling you not to do it, you’re still going on you idea:

“I’ll get this thing done if it kills me”

That’s good. If you manage to show the same strength and will power when actually making your site you might actually pull it off.

take my one negative vote and add it to the positives. You got my support.

Hey thanks for the kind words, M4tK.

Anyways, I got the first version of my proposal document completed. If anyone would like to look it over before I give it out to the world, please let me know. The document just basically describes (in detail) how and why my ideas will work for a new community website. Its pretty basic reading.

I would love to have someone proofread it and just make sure that it doesnt sound goofy or totally off the wall. Anyone wanna help?

(Machine for to kill) #28

where did you post it?

Red, gotta hand it to ya you are determined. I think having more of a resource base than forum based (including a mix) would be better. I do believe most want resources on prefabs (even just links), scripts, how to make shaders, moving enities, etc, most of the more advanced things instead of the “make a room” tut. RTCW 4 Newbies has a few of these things. Splash forums, ppl like the most for ET (at least it seems).
I do like the idea of going to one page to (even just link me) to most (if not all) the things I need to make a map. It would be great to know why and where hint, clip, and other brushes are used. Not just a simple definition, but the actual reason to place it in a certain area.
