Music files can definitely be used to replace the !news files, see Konigstigers Soundpacks, most of them use it.
That chunk problem seems to occur in all the files that ET considers to be “streaming” sound files (ie. news, announcer voiceovers). All the others like voicechats, soundeffects don’t have this problem.
