4 new brink screenshots

No need to be defensive, I only told him where they were coming from. I expected Badman to release higher quality versions now they have been out there in the media but alas.

(Nos) #25

Hm… they were deleted huh? Anybody see anything new?

(Joe999) #26

yes, flying papers!

(SockDog) #27

Great, now they’re going to delete you!

(light_sh4v0r) #28

Strange they only deleted them now, those were up for a number of weeks already on other sites.

(Nos) #29

You know too much.

Im sorry, but i have to kill you. :armadillochase:

Actually this is why I don’t agree with Mark Rein’s rant about manipulating game announcements, I like SD because of their openness and despise companies who’ll deny their customers what they want. By that I mean if we’re here already then why does it benefit us if we have to wait weeks/months to see these screen shots in some print magazine (one a good chunk of people can’t even buy).

“Us” aren’t just the fanboys hanging out on the developers forum. We’re not the ones that need to be reached by the promotion campaign. It are the gamers that aren’t yet aware enough of this game that need to be reached, that’s where the (online) magazines come in. Giving these magazines exclusive scope means that they’ll be bought and read, preferably by the people who wouldn’t receive the news otherwise.

I understand the concept, I just don’t agree with it. It says that SD/Beth should withhold all media and information and stage its dissemination to the public via third parties. Thereby building hype among as wide an audience as possible and getting the most pop for their pounds.

To me that says we’re not valued. We’re hooked fish, money in the bag, forgotten. Also that SD/Beth are screwing themselves over because they are reliant on third parties selling their products. Why not have exclusive content for SD/Beth forums? Why not encourage people to come to their websites for stuff rather than gaming sites? I just see the logic as a bit convoluted in that you are feeding the beast which is taking away your control and doing so because of some self imagined scarcity of information.

I loved the Q&A stuff Rahdo did each week. I respect that he reached out to comp gamers for their input. I scramble when SD respond to a thread to see what the insight of a professional developer is on a topic. That’s why I have this site open on a tab pretty much all the time, I’m not here to show support for a game (there are many games I’m looking forward to but I don’t lurk on their forums), I’m here because I value the interaction and when pictures get deleted because they’re deemed more important to share elsewhere that kind of shouts a different message back.

BTW - I’ll say that I’m sure this is Bethesda’s strategy more than SD’s and SD has to do what the boss says, I don’t begrudge that but so feel disappointed that Beth is blind to the kind of developer they’ve hired.

Magazines pay LARGE sums for exclusivity, it’s an unfortunate part of the business model Splash Damage now has to follow, publishers are the bosses for the most part

(Joe999) #34

it’s totally understandable that they needed to be removed. if everything were online all the time, there’d be no need for print magazines. neither would there be excitement in finding new stuff about the game we all look forward to. the screenshots will show up again sooner or later.

lock please!

(tokamak) #35

Well no, that would alienate the most dedicated fanbase, which need to be catered to as well.

Do they? I didn’t know they did.

(Nail) #36

lol, pretty naive
yes, exclusivity usually has a high price in anything

(Nail) #37

sorry if this is bad form
