It’s interesting you bring this up. I’ve noticed two of my gold cards having a red colour to it instead of gold.
30 Cobalt Cases Opened

That part was mentioned in the release notes:
They have added 1 new Silver variant (Carbon Fiber) and 2 new Gold variants (the red one above which used to be known as “Swiss Demolition” in earlier days of the Beta and the “Bamboo” one that comes with wooden stocks on the guns):
However no mention of a second set of Cobalt in the release notes even though they showed samples of both:
This skin-on-loadout system is even stupider than I thought.
I can afford spending money on games, but within reason. The probability to get a rhino or sawbonez with weapons and perks I like is so close to zero, there is no way I’m spending money on this.
Maybe I’m the only one not comfortable gambling for the proper skin-variant for the right merc, with the right weapon and perks that do not suck?

You can buy individual bronze mercs with all the proper guns, perks, and stuff. For credits and for moneh. The only thing different are the skins. There was also an announcement the gold and silver merc exclusives will have a bronze version as well. You don’t have to gamble. At all.
I don’t get it. Isn’t it a good thing that a f2p does not compel you to spend money, by inducing ‘pleasuerable pain’? If you spend money, all your fellow players will be able to spot, that you supported the game. What could be a better reason to spend?
Some people simply have other interests or don’t have the time to sit down and grind out to gamble.
Yes, but you don’t gain gameplay benefits by spending, only prestige.
To me it sounds like Viquel is complaining about that the game is not p2w.

He can correct me if I’m wrong but I took away that he didn’t like that he had to gamble to get the card that he wants.

I see. I guess there would be nothing wrong with buying a specific skin, tied to a loadout, for a price.
The silver, gold and cobalt skins, I mean.
And I guess the RNG elite cases actually induces a great amount of ‘pleasurable pain’ to collectors, so that would be enough of a reason to give them the option to choose specific loadout cards.
Getting what I want. I don’t go to Steam and tell them “surprise me”.
Let’s say I want a Dreiss-AR Arty in Cobalt. My chances are very slim. I would not be happy with any Vassili and I don’t like really playing Fragger.
If I could buy my Arty cobalt card, I might do it.
As you so very truthfully pointed out, in the near future, anything above bronze will be skin-only and have no effect at all (this is not yet true, however)
I want to pick my shiny stuff, not gamble on
a) hopefully getting any cobalt
b) a merc I actually like using (I would cry if it was vassili. I hate him so very much on every occasion)
c) with a weapon I like (I don’t like shotguns, Stark AR and the slow SMG)
d) usually, one perk-set is much better than others
e) to my understanding, there are two sets of gold and two sets of cobalt already.
If you’re going to collect all cobalt, you might not care, or if you like all mercs, and all weapons, and like flying pigs.
I’m not biting on that, the crates are too expensive for too much of a gamble. Apparently it works, and at least your precious cobalt stays rare.
It was fun to watch this considering how enthusiastic you sounded throughout the entire thing lol
You know my vision on spending such amounts of money on the game, but I’m glad you made a video of it nonetheless - it was a good watch.

Thanks! And no hard feelings, I know everyone likes to do their own thing. Mine just happens to fall into the “Why would you ever do that?” category.
