no, its not better, “free-2-play” is only a word, its good then u talk about old game that go F2P, cos there is no reason to sell it for 15$ or 5$. Team Fortress 2 and Quake live is a good example.
If game is F2P from the start, its more like, “Yes u can play free, but if u pay $ u will have more XP, more weapons, better armor and etc.”
For a last year i played sum of the F2P games:
- C&C:Tiberium alliances - Pay money and your progress will be like +100%.
- Settlers online - same as C&C.
- Firefall - Pay 20$ and u will get instant access to beta +5% xp forever, 50$ - and u get 10% XP, 100$ - epic bike, poster and 15% xp boost forever.
So in the end its like a - U can play for free but u have to grind like an idiot, wasting your time, cos if u dont u suck. Or pay, but if u start paying u will give away much more then 50$.
Right and not right. First, it totally depends if the game’s publisher is a greedy SOB, or a reasonable guy. Second, there are games wich cost you 50 bucks for the base game, 15 bucks a month just for playing them online and further cash for extra goodies(wich is like retail market cobbled with a F2P system)
Blacklight and Gotham City Impostors for example are easy to play even if you pay nada. And look at the DLC market. Now every game comes out with the DLC in mind, or with preorder bonus. That’s not exactly F2P, but you never get the full game either. So F2P spares you the cash for the base game, and as long as you have a reasonable publisher you won’t pay much more than 50$ or € in the end.
If I see a publisher is a greedy prick then he can play his game for himself. In the end he’s depending on the customer, not the other way around. There are too many games out there. If someone confuses me with the proverbial “cash-cow” I give him the literal go “F” yourself.
